Flea Market Find...

This morning hubby made me go with him to pick up something he needed for work which was about 1 hour away even though we're suppose to be on vacation. Well, my son wanted to go too, so at 7am we were off. Hubby promised me if I went with him we would get breakfast out. You will never guess where hubby took me. Yep you guessed it the TA Truck Stop!!!! Yep I ate breakfast with a bunch of truckers. LOL. I'll tell you it was the best breakfast buffet I ever went too. There were eggs, french toast, pancakes, bacon, sausage, potatoes, fresh fruit, biscuits, sausage gravy, grits, anything you could ever want. After breakfast we continued on our way picked up what we needed from the manufacturer and came home.

When we got home hubby asked if I wanted to go to the flea market in Kidron, which they have every Thursday. It is also livestock auction day too. This is in the middle of Amish country. There wasn't a ton there to see, but oh the fresh fruits and veggies. You could smell the fresh peaches when you walked by the booths. It was awesome. So we continued on and I came across a booth that had a bunch of primitive stuff. I got to talking with the guy and he told me he had two houses full of primitive stuff and needed to downsize and that's why he had this stuff here. So, with my puppy dog eyes I asked hubby for this cabinet. He said if I could get it for cheaper than the price listed I could have it.

Well, here it is...

Sorry but the sun was coming in the window behind it.

You should have seen the weird looks I got from people carrying it to the car. The back of the cabinet is metal. If I decide to hang it I have no idea how we're going to do it. As of now I'm not quite sure where it's going to go, but I'm sure I'll figure it out.

Then I talked hubby into going to an antique store just up the road that I've never been too. They had some awesome stuff, but I didn't buy anything because I really need to sell some of my fall stuff first. There were crocks, and dry sinks, and all kinds of good stuff for decent prices. I'll have to go back later.

For those who are wondering I do not have an etsy shop just my website. Hopefully I will be adding some fall items to the website by the middle of August. One of the scarecrows I made was not bought by the shop owner so it will probably end up on there.

Wylde Woman Award

I was given another award by Robin at The Robin's Nest. I have been meaning to post this sooner, and I must apologize to Robin for not doing so. I am so flattered by her generosity. She has the most amazing pictures and has taught me how to take better ones along the way, not that they are great yet. LOL. If you haven't visited her yet you really need to. She just became a grandma again. How do you do it Robin being 21 and all!!! LOL.

Isn't this so awesome.

Here's the rules...

You may give it to one or one hundred or any number in between-it's up to you. Make sure and include links to their blog.

And remember the Purpose of the Award: To send love and acknowledgment to women who brighten your day, teach you new things and live their lives fully with generosity and joy.

Everyone on my blog roll is so deserving of this. You all have touched my life in ways you can't ever imagine. The wonderful kind comments and friendship you have given me are so overwhelming. You all feel like sisters to me and I wake up each morning to see who has left me a message and go to bed saying a prayer for each of you. For those not on my blog roll yet I am working on it and please let me know if you would like to be added. So to all of you thank you so much for visiting my blog and keeping me going.

Watcha Working on Wednesday

If you are not familiar with Wednesday go on over to Leslie's My Country Home. Of course I am still working on fall stuff. I finally got my behind in gear over the weekend and made some more scarecrows. These are more my style then the one I showed last week.

These still need hangers on the back.

We went canoeing with the kids yesterday and I let my daughter use the camera so here are a few pics.

Hubby who hates his picture taken.

Geese floating beside us.

Me for those who didn't know. teehee

Awesome pic my DD took.

And of course what camera person 's day is not complete without a close-up.

Now don't forget the next step for the floorcloth will be next week. So be sure to come back. Ok well, come back before that too. LOL.

Tutorial Tuesday

Everyone is just so baffled by my brilliance with names aren't you? First it's Fat Friday now Tutorial Tuesday. How do I do it? LOL. Come on admit it you are so interested in what I'm going to post next you are just sucked right in. I know I know. LOL. I know you are all saying where in the heck does this girl live does she have no life that she sits and thinks about this stuff. The answer well........... (enough with dots already) No!!! I have no life are you happy I said it. Just kidding.

So as promised and by request by Kim at Simple Needs I'll give you a list of what we'll need to make a floor cloth. My way is not the only way and may not be the right way, but this is how I do it.

This is STEP #1 SUPPLIES

For the cloth/linoleum floorcloth you will need:

a piece of linoleum remnant(My Mom gave me the scraps from her bathroom because I told her I would paint my own rug on it. Needless to say she just shook her head and handed it over.) Check at a carpet store or we have a place called Odd Lots which sells small pieces. If you have a piece rolled up lay it out flat in sun for a few hours to make it more pliable and lay smooth. OR

A piece of heavy weight duck cloth (If you want to attempt a big one Lowe's has their painter drop cloths that work wonderful and the hem is already sewn in or you could cut out the size you want from one.) Make sure it is the cloth kind. You can also purchase this duck fabric at Wal-mart or Jo-Anns. I know duh Mary we know that! You could also buy a preprimed and hemmed floor cloth piece from several places online. If you need the name of any please let me know.

Paint- I like to keep all paint from projects I've done. Whether it be painting the walls, furniture, or whatever I use these paints. They are all latex paints. Easy clean up with these. Paint brushes and I like to use a small roller and pan for the base coat it goes on much quicker, but it is up to you.

I use a lot of blue painters tape.

A ruler for straight lines on borders.

Stencil if you'd like or for those who can freehand even better.
(If using a stencil you will need regular stencil paint like Delta or Apple Barrel or whatever you use).

Polyurethane I use Minwax

Optional: A gel stain of your choice. I happen to have Chestnut so we're going to see how it turns out. I haven't used this color before. This is to age your cloth if you choose but not necessary.

I know I'm weird, but I like to have a drop cloth for under my project, so I use an old shower curtain or go buy one for a couple bucks at the dollar store. Wait til I show you mine. There is a ton of paint from many projects on it. LOL.

The technique is a little different from linoleum to fabric. So bare with me when I try to explain both at the same time. This should be all we need to get started. If I think of anything else I'll let you know ASAP.

Several things I've done. I am by no means an expert in floorcloth making or painting on fabric. There are many other people out there that know much more than me. Like I say this is the way I do it that I will share with you. If you'd like to see an actual floor cloth I've made please click on the picture of my house on the right hand side it'll be toward the end.

Step #2

Step #3

Oh Yay it's Monday... AGAIN!!!

I have been debating as to what to post today. I have several things that I'll be sharing this week, but I couldn't decide what to start with. I know what a terrible dilemma. LOL. As usual the weekend went by so fast. Friday night for my sons birthday we went to Red Robin per his request. My sister and BIL and nephew joined us. All I can say is I'm glad I don't have a 2 year old anymore. LOL. My nephew is the ornriest little boy you've ever seen. Not that it matters, but my sister adopted him and he is an only child and is SPOILED!!!! I just shake my head because before she had kids she had all the best parenting ideas about what she would do and not do and how her child would act. Well..... that all went out the window with her son. LOL. Too funny! Of course they brought my son an ice cream sundae and sang to him. My son does not like to be embarassed like that and if he could've slumped down in the booth any more he would have been on the floor.

Saturday I again worked on some more fall crafts. I will have those to share with you on Wednesday. My daughter went with my hubby to the farm to cut hay and do some other chores. She loved it because he let her drive the combine in the field. She has never done that before and it scares me to death because she gets so confused easily. Which reminds me I got the kid's achievement test scores this week. My daughter did awesome since her IEP allowed her to have help with hers. She had the most help on her writing portion. She was allowed to have a scribe write down what she tells them because of her disability her brain is going much faster than her hand can write and she misses words and parts of thoughts. So she gets low scores because her writing doesn't make sense. So she passed both the reading and writing portion, but failed her math portion only by 8 questions. This is much better than the last time she took this test so I am overjoyed. Another part of her disability is that she does not understand abstract ideas and math is one of those. The doctors have told us she will always struggle with math and is in the learning disabled class for this. I have to tell you I am so glad we moved to a better school system. It is a huge relief and blessing haveing teachers who can help my child. As for my son well... I now have leverage when he comes home and says 4th grade is too hard. He scored in the highest categories of both reading and math. He does not work to his ability because he doesn't think school is important. I am thinking he is bored and is not paying attention and that is why he thinks school is hard. Anyway, I am so proud of both my kids and their scores.

Alright I know stop with the boring stuff and get on with the good stuff. I just had to brag a little you know. :-) Just so you know I am working on a tutorial for painting a floorcloth. I think what I'll do is break it down into a couple weeks so it isn't all coming at you at once. Plus it makes you come back and read to see when I add the next part. See I'm thinking now. hehe. Yes, Yes, I hear it now you are pounding your head on the desk saying stop blabbering and get on with some pictures... I AM SO BORED WITH YOUR TALKING MARY STOP I CAN'T TAKE IT ANYMORE!!!!! LOL. OK OK

So my Mom gave these to me last week. Aren't they cool. It is a set of little books. There is no date on them as to when they were printed. Each book is maybe 8-10 pages. They were my great aunts who is 92. I am thinking I need to get some big frames and put them under glass and put them on the walls. Just a couple in each frame. Not sure though.

Aren't the graphics just awesome.

Some of these I have never heard of.

Couple of close ups of a few of the books.

Then I found this newspaper in the bottom of a trunk I got from my great aunt. Not sure you can read the date but it is from August 24, 1934.

Thanks for hanging in there with me everyone. I'll try to shorten it up this week in my other posts. Yeah right you all know me too well. LOL. Although, I may not post every day as hubby is taking a couple vacation days and we are hoping to do some things with the kids. So til next time.

Random Act of Kindness

I was so excited when I opened my mailbox today! I saw an envelope from my friend Jo Anne from The Carter Clan. It had a lump in it and I wondered what in the world could this be. So I tore it open and found these...

These pictures do not do these justice. They are gorgeous silver earrings with pink. I have never owned a pair of earrings like this. They are just awesome! I tried to put them in and take a pic, but the pic didn't turn out to my liking because my rosacea is flared and it looked horrible.

Aren't these awesome!

Then she even included a hand-made card. I LOVE anything handmade. Joann you have no idea how much you made my day! I have never been the recipient of a random act of kindness before. THANK YOU!!!!!!

Happy Birthday to my Son!!!

Today is my baby's birthday. He is 9 years old today. Oh how time flies when you're having fun huh? I wish I had a scanner to show baby pictures but I don't so I'll show ones I have from the last year. He is so much a Mama's boy. He loves to give hugs and kisses and tells me all the time that he loves me. He's even gonna live with us when he gets married so he says because he loves us that much. I do admit I do baby him, but I just can't resist.

He is my little adult. Many people have told me that they feel like they are talking to another adult when they meet him. My son could talk your ear off about heavy equipment, farms, how to put a roof on, and change a tire. He has had to grow up a little quicker than most kids because of his sister. He watches out for her and makes sure she is with us at all times. He has never been made to do this he chooses to. My son is smart as a whip and isn't afraid to tell you what he thinks. Unfortunately, this has gotten him into trouble many times. Ask Tiffany from Tiffany's Primitive Place. LOL

So my little boy. Mama loves you too. Happy Birthday!!!

Fat Friday Recipe!!!!

I tried to get pictures this week of what I made, BUT everyone dug in too fast. However; the recipes I'll share are already made in your homes. This is just a quick easy NON-cook from scratch way. :-) I told you guys I have no idea how to cook so here ya go. LOL

Crock Pot Swiss Steak
1 package of cube steak
2 cans of beef gravy (yes I say can because I don't know how to make it tehe)

I make a little mix of flour, salt pepper, and this time garlic (the stuff in the shaker from Tastefully Simple). Drag the meat through it and throw it a pan to brown on both sides. I then put in the crock pot smother with gravy and let it it cook all day.

Next I made my rendition of corn casserole.

Corn Casserole
1 box of Jiffy corn muffin mix
1 cup of cream corn
1 cup whole kernel corn (with some juice)
1/4 cup butter softened
1/2 cup sour cream
Last but not least cheese (we use cheddar)

Preheat oven to 350 degrees, and grease an 8X8 pan. Mix together all the ingredients shown above except the cheese. Pour into the pan and bake for 1 hour or until brown around the edges and set. After you pull it out sprinkle your cheese all over the top and let it melt.

So there you go sorry no pics of that today, but I will be back with pics after my son gets up. He turns 9 today. So I'm off to bake a cake for him and do what HE wants to do today! If any of you are posting recipes, and want me to post Mr Linky, I will just let me know and then check back a little later to see if it's up and post your blog on it so that we all can enjoy them.

P.S. Peper Creek Gatherings is having an awesome giveaway. Isn't this awesome. Please go check her out and enter.

I Have A Fabric Problem/ Fabric Anonymous Needed

Yes everyone it's true... (head hanging) My name is Mary and I am hooked on fabric. I have tried to stop, but to no avail I still buy more fabric. It started out as 1 yard but now it's not just a yard, but 2 and 3 or more at a time. I never pay full price for my fabric. I buy it at the thrift store or whenever it is on sale or I have a coupon. I know I know I am just making excuses, but I can't help it I have to have it. I never have a use in mind I just LOVE the fabric. Then come time to use it I can't. I LOVE it too much to cut it. LOL. I have a lot of fabric. I went through it last night and can't believe how much I truly have. I forget what I have most of the time. Well, here it is my latest buys and freebies. :-(

This first set is cottons and wools I picked up at the thrift store a couple weeks back. I spent about $8.00.

This was free from a lady I work with. There is about 8 yards I'd say. Cute little blue cotton print. I'm seeing cute little aprons and dresses for peg racks. hehe like my purple slippers.

The next two pics are a fusible quilt interfacing guideline stuff to make quilts. Free and I have two bolts. I really need to make a quilt for my bed.

This next pile of stuff also free. Cotton fabrics and muslin precut for candlewicking along with books on how to do it thank goodness. And then two rolls of stuff not sure what it is, but one says to sew on fabric then it automatically gathers the fabric for like ruffles when you pull this string. (I don't know whatever) Hey it was free right? But look at the fabric (eyes fixed on the pretty fabric chanting I LOVE this fabric) LOL.

The first step in recovery is admitting you have a problem. Well, I have a HUGE one. LOL. I better get busy sewing and using some so I can buy more. Oh wait what am I saying. I think I need to go to the fabric store I'm getting depressed, but it'll have to wait since I'm at work AGAIN.

It's a Giveaway!!!!

One of the fabulous ladies that I have met is having a giveaway. She has talent I'm telling you. Rush over and enter on her blog. It is Joann from The Carter Clan She is giving away an awesome prim tool box. Here's a pic I hope she doesn't mind I put it on here.

Need An Extra Prayer

To all of you who pray could you please say an extra for someone in my life who is going through a tough situation. I don't want to elaborate, but this person knows who they are. Pray that they will have the strength and courage to face what they need to do and follow through. I know this person reads my blog so if you have any encouraging words for them please post them in my comments section. Thank you so much my friends.

Watcha Working on Wednesday

Let me first start out with an apology for any grammar and spelling mistakes as I just came off of a 24 hour shift.

As promised I will show you some things I've been working on besides my door. I have some other things in the works, but they are not done yet. Remember when I bought the quilted pieces from the thrift store. If not click here. Anyway this is what they became last week.

Not quite my style a little too bright, but I'll use them as pillow shams for awhile until I redo the bedroom but heck for $2.00 they work great!

Next my hubby FINALLY hung my peg shelf I bought weeks ago. I need to make some more bonnets and aprons, but for now they look OK. He laughs at me because of the bright white apron he says it doesn't go. Well, it is an authentic Amish apron that I bought so that I could use it as a guide and make some to sell. It will come down or get coffee stained after I use it.

Next thing is this little fall bag I came up with. The outside is burlap while the inside is lined in flannel. Then I hand stitched on some leaves. I thought it was too cute.

Then of course I have been on a pillow kick. I have no idea why, but I zipped these together. Do you like the screw drivers in the background. My hubby can't seem to pick up after himself.

Alright can anyone tell I am a Southpaw? The slant of my letters. LOL.

Last but not least my scarecrow. It is not prim enough for me, but I wanted to try the burlap for the head.

Other than that lets see I had to clean up puke from from son this AM, put dinner in the crock pot, start laundry, and clean my kitchen. Who knows if I get the kitchen accomplished you might get to see why I hate it so much. LOL.

My 2nd Bathroom

Alright I've decided to show you a little more of my home. Keep in mind I have not touched the upstairs at all yet. The colors are as they were when we bought this home last year. The holes in the walls are the ones they had with the exception of the shelf you'll see. Do you ever wonder why I keep showing you my bathrooms? Me too. LOL. If you want to see the other bathroom check here and here.Let the smart aleck comments begin... :-)

This is walking into my bathroom from the hall. HEHE hey there I am in the mirror!!!

I saw a shelf kinda like this one on ebay an asked hubby to build me one. Hubby put a back on mine and see that copper looking thing? That is a back splash piece from Lowes that is made to look like copper. I thought it was kinda cool. The wood is from the farm where he works that was laying in the barn.

My ugly shower... UGH I hate well water as it stains everything. Anyway I thought I'd spruce up the curtain with some greens.

Alrighty up til now have you seen any linen closet??? NO I don't have one. (Insert smart aleck comment here.) Where in the world am I suppose to put my towels and stuff??? And hey while we're at it yes everyone NO window in the bathroom either. I complain about the other Bathroom has a huge one and this one has none. LOL. I know what you're thinking are you ever happy??? :-)

So this is my solution this tiny little box thing for my towels. But you're saying why not put a cabinet with a door. Well, look closely yes BEHIND the door is another sink. Who would put a sink behind the door so close to the other one?? UMMMM... not me. So I can't slide anything between the sinks to put in the corner.

And then if you move the door you see that I have one towel bar. Yeah so luckily in my stash o' stuff I had an over the door towel hanger thank goodness.

So there you have it another bathroom. Aren't you enjoying your trip to my home. LOL. Don't worry I won't bore you tomorrow because it's Watcha Workin on Wednesday.

My New Old Door

Well, I just couldn't wait to share with you my door I finally finished. The hinges had to be stripped and painted, but I think it turned out awesome. My hubby says it makes the door look so much bigger than before. Then the next words were "Well, are you gonna go show all your girlie friends on your blog thingy?" I said yep sure am see ya later. LOL. So here it is. Now I just need to start on my bathroom door next.

Before: (I thought I had this pic somewhere, but just in case.)

After:

Also another sort of view of the floor, door, and wall colors... oh and of course Shadow who knew I was taking pictures and plopped himself down right in the middle of the rug. Can't say as I blame him the floor stays nice and cool right there because of the floor vent.

Oh yeah, I have added my home pics many of you have seen so far on my blog to Webshots. Click on the picture of my house in the sidebar.

We went to the rodeo on Saturday night, but dummy me forgot the camera so no pics. :-( It was really good though. The rodeo was about 45 minutes away in Sugarcreek (middle of Amish Country). Most of the riders were local so it wasn't anything like the professional rodeos you see on TV. My son decided he didn't want to go(he doesn't like the calf roping he thinks it is mean to the calves) and stayed with my in laws for another night. He left Friday night because grandpa was going to work on the church roof on Saturday and he wanted to help. So again he went for the whole weekend and came back Sunday in time to go to the combine demolition derby. So it was a special treat for my daughter to just go to the rodeo with me and hubby. My daughter enjoys the barrel racing the most. It was too cute they had the little kids in the audience come out in the arena for mutton riding. OK... wasn't sure what to expect at first, but they put sheep in the bull pins put the kids on the sheep's back tell them to wrap their arms around the sheep and ride til they fell off like the bull riders. It was adorable. Only one bull rider got hurt and he was the last one to ride. The got thrown off and then the bull stepped on him and then stuck him with his horns. The rider got up and stumbled out of the arena, but wouldn't let the paramedics look at him. So all in all it was really fun. And oh Nicole, if you ever get the chance to go to one you should it is a learning experience. I believe another rodeo is coming in August about 7 minutes down the road from our house, but I'm not sure we're going. Last year it was so packed that people left because there wasn't enough seating.

Yesterday we had thunder showers in the morning so again I stayed in and crafted. Then like I said my hubby and son went to the combine demolition derby in the afternoon. My son said it was awesome watching the huge machines crash into each other. Yeah not my cup of tea, but it was a Daddy day for him. He got to eat fair fries, pizza, and pop. Life is good at 8 years old when Mom isn't around. LOL.

I am Humbled...

My new friend Nicole from Our Cozy Nest has given me an award. This girl has such a wonderful blog if you haven't already go check it out. She makes the most beautiful cards and even came up with a quiet book for kids. She even went above and beyond with a card swap when people weren't able to participate and made more cards so no one was left out. She is also posting about her sister in laws home. It is decorated beautifully. This is the award she bestowed on me.

I wanted to get some crafting done this weekend, but we are going to a rodeo tonight and I don't want to pull everything out and get started then have to put it down. BUT... I have made a scarecrow and the cutest fall bag so far. You'll have to wait until next week to see though. I also got my hubby to hang my peg rack after 3 weeks. LOL and I got him to help me paint the door hardware for my door I've been working on. I would love to get it done and put up to be able to show you all next week. I know this is a boring post, but I wasn't planning on posting today at all. Hopefully tomorrow I can be more productive.

It's a Giveaway

One of my great blogging friends Tammy is hosting a really awesome giveaway on her blog to celebrate her new Etsy shop. I shouldn't tell you because I want to win her prize. Aren't these prim shutters the best? But please no one else enter because I want to win them. LOL. Just kidding. Please stop over and check out her new Etsy shop too.

Fat Friday Recipe!!!!

It is that day of the week that I told you I would try to type up a recipe for you. Now remember if you would like to participate please do so on your blog or in my comments section or email (check my profile page for email address) for non-bloggers. This can be any recipe you'd like. Since I am not a cook or baker mine are very simple.

Sloppy Joe Biscuits
1 can of Grande biscuits any flavor
1 pound of ground beef browned
1 can of sloppy joe sauce (Manwich Bold for me)
Cheese for garnishing

Make your Manwich as directed on the can. I don't know how many do this but after browning my hamburger a drain and rinse it with water. This helps remove the extra grease then I take a paper towel and wipe the bottom of the pan too. Preheat your oven to the temperature on the back of the Grande biscuits. Mine said 350 degrees. Take a biscuit and push it down in to your cupcake pan so that the sides come up.

Like this...

Fill the biscuits with the sloppy joe mix. Mine kinda runs over a bit but I want to make sure there is enough in each one. Put them in the oven for 12-17 minutes what ever the biscuit can says to cook them. Mine took the full length when I made them this week.

After they come out put your favorite cheese on top. Enjoy!

I know these are too simple, but my son and hubby loved them this week when I made them. You could put your chicken potpie mixture in them, or taco meat, the combinations are endless. If you'd like to add your Fat Friday recipe please do so below.

I also have to share this with you. My son who is 8 normally complains that all my stuff around the house is "old." Now he does like going to the antique stores with me on occasion. Well, he went to my Mom's house last week after Bible school one day and decided to do a little shopping on his own. My Mother is a hoarder. My Grandmother passed away about 13 years ago and my Mom brought a whole bunch of stuff home from her house and put it in the garage. This was so she could go through it later and keep what she wanted and throw out the rest. Yeah well... it's still all there. Molding and getting ruined because the garage is not heated and has a gravel floor. Anyway, so my son starts nosing around and spots this stuff and brings it home thinking I would like this...

I do like the bucket just not the dog!!! LOL but he tried. Well, you can't come home empty handed for yourself can you? No he picked this up for himself.

Yes this is a squirrel hall tree. Yes this use to be my sister and mine when we were younger. And yes my son dragged it to his room to "use." As you can see he now has all of his coats in his bedroom, which really has no room for this because of all his toys he insists on having in his room too. LOL. Then he proceeds to tell me that once my Mom cleans out this box he will be bringing that home too. No not just any box my toy box that is on casters from when I was a kid. He says he will put all his cars and trucks in there. I told him not in his room he's not since it has hard wood floors. I told he could have it if he puts it in the basement. I guess I can't complain he is reusing and helping my Mom clean out her stuff. LOL.

The first Antique I Ever Bought

After I go out of my cutesy country stage and decided I liked primitive I wanted to go to the antique shops. So, my hubby obliged and took me to a huge one just outside Medina. There in the back room I saw the cabinet I had to have. No it was not in the original condition it was made in repairs had been made, but it was still quite expensive for my small budget. I had no idea where I was going to put it in my small ranch home at the time. All I knew was I had to have it. I remember paying for it and then feeling guilty because I spent the money. We loaded it in the bed of the pick up truck and brought it home. Now I can't part with it because of all its quirks I have found over the years.

I can't get a complete picture of it because my dining room table is in the way. I love you all, but I have a hard time moving the table without getting a hernia. LOL.

I don't love the design on the bottom doors, but I deal with it.

LOVE LOVE LOVE oh did I say LOVE tin punched anything, but loved the sides on this. There is a total of 6 panels on the upper part.

Close up of the panel. Look no hearts. If you are new to my blog I don't like decorating with hearts, but I love stars.

If you don't like the look of a hole put a tin can lid over it to hide. That way no one will see it. I love this part to. I am assuming someone tried to add a light at one point, but who knows. I can't tell because the back of the cabinet has a newer thin sheet of plywood on it. By newer I think 20 years or so.

The middle shelf is one piece of wood that is so warped that everything rolls off. I have to brace everything that might have that tendency. Right now I have my masher on there and it rolls right off. Sorry not a very good picture.

Last but not least I love this part. If your shelf isn't long enough... pound nails through bottle caps so it has something to rest on to hold it up.

I put the third coat of stain on my door and it is now the color I love. Hubby even says he likes and I did a good job. I almost fainted. We have decided to put a coat of polyurethane on too so that I can wipe it down if needed. AND I also made two pillow shams yesterday too. So it turned into WHAT I DID Work on Wednesday. LOL.

Watch Working on Wednesday

It is time once again for Leslies's (My Country Home) Watcha working on Wednesday. I'm thinking I need to rename it Watcha NEED to Work on Wednesday! I have soooo many things I need to get done. It just keeps piling up on me. I go and buy fabric or craft stuff with high hopes of doing something with it, but then I don't. Then I have this lady I work with who used to own a fabric store and she closed it but still has tons of stuff for sewing. She keeps giving me stuff. Some I will probably never use, but most of the fabric I will one way or another. Oh wait... I'm getting off track here. So what I'vebeen working on. Well, you all saw my fall crafts on Monday that is part and of course that closet door I've been working on. Are you sick of hearing about it yet. I finally went to the hardware store and bought stain. I thought I would give gel stain a try. I bought Chestnut for the color.

Not sure I like how it is turning out. I sanded the best I could, but there is so many bad spots in the wood and wood putty that I don't know what to do. It is so hard to get a good pic for you to see as the door is huge and in my garage so they don't come out too well. I already have 2 coats on it I guess I'll put a third one on it today if I have time.

Hey Rondell... you asked me how I had the stitchery hung on my cabinet door. Here's a pic to show you. I should have used a flat tack so you don't see it, but I don't have any. I figured there was no way I was going to hammer a nail in the wood, so this would make a tiny hole where no one would see it when I decide to change. The little pieces of wood were added later by someone and weren't original. I wish I knew what originally what was there though. Was it glass or tin? You all should see the punched tin sides on this cabinet. That is why I bought it. OH yeah... duh hey Mary quit having a blonde moment go take a picture of it. I'll include that tomorrow. LOL.

Oh my word I just had a heart attack. I forgot and just clicked out of this post without saving and thought AACCCKKK it's all gone. My hard work all gone in on single click. I forgot it automatically saves and updates. Shewwwww!!!! I was not going to retype everything if it didn't. Well, off to get my daughter ready to go canoeing with her Dad and my son and I are going to go somewhere too. It is suppose to be 91 degrees today so we'll have to do it this AM. Til tomorrow.

Oh before I forget is anyone else having problems with certain functions on blogger working. I'm wondering if it is my puter or what. My blog roll disappeared yesterday and now today and post a picture in my sidebar. It keeps telling me invlaid image URL. I've posted every other picture the same way. GRRRRR....

Monday Already???

I am sorry no posting over the weekend, but I made myself sit down and get busy crafting. I made some fall and Christmas stuff, but have a bunch more to go. The weather was up and down this weekend, so I stayed inside.

Friday was the last day of VBS for the kids. My daughter was in the junior high class and they did their Bible studies, but then went and did fun stuff each day too. They went to a golf driving range, which my daughter said she is no go at. Then they went bowling. Then another day they went to Putt and Stuff where they were suppose to miniature golf, but it rained so they played laser tag and video games inside and when it cleared off they went out and drove mini stock cars around the track. On Friday they went swimming in a pond at one of the church members house. HEHE my daughter didn't like that too much as she is used to a pool. Ummm.. I think the words were "Mom it had a dirt bottom and you couldn't see anything." LOL she came home and took a shower right away. My son said he had fun as the theme was about dinosaurs. One of the days he got this block of something (I have no idea what it is clay????). Anyway, there are dinosaur "fossils" hidden in it and the kids have to excavate with a pick and brush to discover them. Well, I didn't take a pic, but I have white stuff everywhere all over my table and chairs. He had fun though. Friday night was their closing ceremony and all the classes sang songs that they learned. I just adore watching the 2s and 3s singing ok running all over the stage. LOL.

Like I say Saturday rained and then the sun came out then it rained so on and so forth. My son wanted to go swimming so he went to my in laws in the afternoon and didn't come home until 8pm Sunday night. My daughter was to spend the night at a friends house after her friend came home from canoeing. Don't get me started on that Mother. GRRRR.... they made out that the other Mother would come pick up my daughter when they got back in town. We finally get a call at 8:30pm that they were back and could I bring my daughter over. So my hubby took her. The thing that burnt me was hubby and I were going to go to dinner just us. I told him before I knew the other Mother wasn't coming that we shouldn't have to wait til she got there to go. He said no we better wait until she comes. I am glad he said that because she wouldn't have been able to go. Bad thing is we never went to dinner then. So because of this other Mother I had to change my plans. Then she couldn't even bring her home the next day I had to go pick her up. Anyway, so hubby didn't eat dinner he said it was too late he had to get up early so he went to bed. What an exciting evening we had. I crafted all day though while hubby was working on the farm because I had no interruptions.

Sunday it rained in the morning but turned out to be a beautiful day in the afternoon. I crafted a little more and finished things up and put away since I won't get back to it until Wednesday because of my other job. I just couldn't get as motivated to get much else done.

I thought I would post some pics of a few things I accomplished over the weekend. Please respect me as an artisan and do NOT copy or use my pictures without prior permission. I work hard on being different and making my own patterns. If you have any questions please feel free to ask.

Love these pillows.

This primitive pumpkin door hanger is not done as I need to add some sweet annie and other drieds as soon as I get my hands on some. Oh yeah if anyone who reads this either wholesales grubby candles or knows where I can get my hands on them it would be appreciated. I only need a few depending on how many I need to make.

Corn cob dolls. The idea came from Jill at Fruit of Her Hands.

I saw Kindra's corn and thought I needed some so I came up with these, the leaves are inspired by RK Creations, and the acorns (which you can barely see) are my pattern.

Fat Friday Recipe!!!!

WARNING!!!! You will become addicted to these brownies! I like to make these whenever I go to a cookout, picnic, or well just anytime the chocolate craving hits. Now my presentation is off, but I don't care these are too yummy to care what they look like. :-)

Brownie Delight

Bake a family size brownie mix according to the package directions in a 9X13 pan. Let the brownies cool completely. Now take a container of vanilla frosting (doesn't matter what kind, but I prefer the lighter whipped ones) and spread over the brownies. This next part is up to you... sprinkle a few chopped nuts over the frosting. (My family hates nuts except me so we don't get nuts.)

Now Mix togther a bag of chocolate chips (12oz), 1 cup peanut Butter, 1 Tablespoon butter/maragarine and melt over double boiler.

This is the way I do it... Put a little water in the bottom pan and set the other bowl down inside.

Once the mixture is melted add 3 cups Rice Krispies and stir togther. Spread this mixture over the top of the frosting and nuts. That's it!!! Now how easy is that.

Fat Friday.... And My Living/Dining Room Pics

I know what you are thinking... aren't we all horizontally challenged everyday??? My answer is a loud resounding YES! So, in order to keep my perfect score going I am declaring Friday... Fat Friday. Now, I am no cook or baker by any means, but I have a few recipes. After reading many of your blogs you have been sharing recipes all along. There have been cobbler recipes, pies, cakes, brownies, vegetable recipes , OK I could go on and on. Starting today I am going to post recipes that I use here at my house. And I am going to try to post pictures to go with them. I would love to open this up to all of you. Yes this means you... you know the ones who like to stop by and read what boring stuff I have to say and not say HI (lurkers) Patti and Debbie you know who you are LOL. hehe I know both of them are going OMG I can't believe she said that. Anyway, even if you are not a blogger you can still leave a comment. I will post directions in the side of my posts for you OR you can email me and I will post your recipes on my blog. Now, I wanted to give advance notice to those bloggers who don't have anything planned to say today. I am going to make mine this morning and post the pic and recipe this afternoon. So in other words check back. If you leave a comment that you would like in on this I will post Mister Linky if I have enough people. But until I get back here this PM here are some pics I hope you'll enjoy!!!!

OOPS forgot this one...

My other Goodies

I promised to show you the other goodies I bought while on my weekend shopping trip with my MIL, SIL, Aunt in law the other weekend. Of course that was like two weeks ago. LOL.

Before I do let me share a little story. OK, not a story a real true life story that happened to me this morning. As my alarm goes off at 4:15 am on the mornings I go to work I get up bleary eyed. I walk downstairs to start the coffee and then back up so that I can take my shower. I start the water get undressed step in the shower and low and behold I am being watched. Naked as a jay bird there he is a HUGE daddy long leg spider. Now if you read my A to Z meme I HATE spiders. Now what is a girl to do with no shoe no nothing to kill this spider. I can't scream it would wake up the kids. I most definitely am not going to step on it. Hubby is still sleeping... all I know is he can not stay there. So I panic... he panics... he starts to run I swear I saw him trip over his own legs trying to get away from me. OK I can't let him get away, now what??? I pick up my bottle of shampoo and try to squish him. All that did was tear a leg off now I have maimed him forever. UGGGHHHH now what? You can't have a spider with a leg gone running around that is just mean. So again I take my shampoo bottle and smack him. Yep this time he is good and dead. So I strategically position myself so as not to get spider guts on me and send him down the drain. Ahhhh... I can now relax and finish my shower. LOL.

Now on with the show...

My yummy smelling beeswax ornie 50% off around $1.00 I think.

The bowl was 50% off...

Egg shaped gourds 50% off...

Stencil sign 50% off...

Briar Patch Seed Supply sign... yep 50% off.

Pussy Willows were 50% off too.

Ok, I'm warning you are not going crazy I took this pic sideways so you could see the peg shelf. Why you ask? Well, my hubby promised me he would hang it last weekend and yep you guessed it he didn't. This was 30% off.

Before I go I have to say thank you to all of you nice people out there that read my blog. I am sure none of the people I talked to yesterday while directing traffic at the site of a two semi truck accident read this. But, we were stuck in the middle of a down pour not once but twice. I had absolutely no rain gear, drenched with water running down my face I had many people offer me their umbrellas and said keep it. I had one man even offer to give me his little kid's umbrella as it was all he had. I politely refused saying that I was already wet, but thank you. I even had a truck driver give me a towel out the window and said I think you might need this. So thank you to all of you kind, generous, thoughtful people who would stop and offer a complete stranger something without thinking twice it was much appreciated. I like to think that even though there are many people who are rude (believe me I saw and talked to many yesterday) I believe that for the most part many of us would help someone else if we could. So if you are out and about today I challenge you to do a random act of kindness for someone who is a complete stranger it will come back to you a complete circle. Trust me I know!

Watcha Working on Wednesday

This is my Watch working on Wednesday project that Leslie over at My Country Home started a few weeks ago. There are a few of us that are playing along and be sure to check out everyones projects that she lists on her blog in Mr. Linky.

Well, once again I have been working on those darn small crocks but that's not what I'm going to show today. Someone said I must be hardcore working on Christmas. LOL. No I sell some of my items to prim stores and one girl has been after me to come up with Christmas. Then another one of my stores said she wanted Fall so I need to change gears. I need to be a season ahead, but I have a difficult time doing that.

Anyway, you all know I painted my foyer, but I got to looking at my closet and bathroom door. I thought maybe it would be too much if I painted them. So, I talked hubby into taking one door off (the closet) and letting me strip the paint. I wanted to see what kind of shape they were in. So we went to the hardware store and bought some citrus smelling stripper that you paint on like paint and went to work. I did learn one thing do not wear latex gloves when doing this. hehe.

Before...

After the first coat...

After the second coat of stripper and mineral spirits....

The paint and stain (shellac) that comes off is terribly sticky and sticks to the scraper your hands hence the gloves just ripped apart. All I have left is to sand and decide if I still want to stain the doors. Depends on how well they look after I sand. If not I will paint them again. Hey remember in the one post I couldn't figure out what that white round thing was on the closet door (see the before pic)? Well, it was to make sure my front door knob didn't hit the closet door. You can see in the 2nd picture after the second coat where it did and the tried to putty it in. Other than that I haven't done much around the house. I do need to though. I'm just kinda in a funk and can't concentrate on anything.

This Is My Porch

I know the title is here is my porch, but I thought I'd show you the sidewalk we put in last year and leading up to the porch...

Close up...

I had to stand in the garage to take this one. Yes, we still have shoe clutter, but better out there and not inside. The plant on the right is a Chinese Lantern... I can't wait to dry some of them.

Since my hubby told me my front porch looked cluttered I decided to redo just a little. Now I haven't really spent much time or money on the porch. This is a low priority, but I thought I'd show you anyhow. The first pic is when you come up my steps. What I really want is a planting table with a back on it and some cubbies. I'm trying to convince my hubby to build it, but he can't just come up with something without a pattern. So I'll probably have to design it and give him measurements. The wash tub is from my great aunts house. I have another one, but I'm not sure what I'm going to do with it yet.

For now this is the corner of the porch. It may not stay this way because we get really strong winds here and everything blows across the porch. The wagon was mine from my childhood and my parents said take it home. I know this needs more, but I don't have anything right now to use outside. Whatever it is will get ruined and I can't bring myself to put my antiques outside. So if you have suggestions they are always welcome. Keeping in mind wind and rain.

My New Step Back Cupboard.

Wow what a weekend! I didn't go and do anything special. OK, we went to the fireworks on Saturday night here in town with my uncle who lost his wife a year ago and had no kids. My daughter didn't go with us she decided to go with her Father. We picked a new spot to sit this year. We pulled off the road about 5 minutes from our house and looked out over some farm land. It was the clearest view we've ever had even going downtown. Then another town was having their display too directly behind us. So we a had two for one.

I also have been working on some Christmas crafts. I spent all day yesterday trying to figure out how to make this one thing. I kinda got it, but I need to improve it. As many of you know I don't use other people's patterns if I can help. I like the challenge of trying to figure it out on my own. Plus I have never seen a pattern for this anyway. I will show you in time what I'm working on because I don't reveal it until I love it. I also rearranged my living room/dining room AGAIN! So, I will post pics this week of that. My hubby also told me the porch decorations looked cluttered so I had to clean and rearrange there too. Ok so I lied I'm going to add a pic of what I was working on... small crocks that I'm going to make into ornaments for the Christmas tree. I am also working on bigger crocks also. These are made out of fabric. I know you're saying to yourself fabric??? why fabric??? when you can have the real thing. To be honest... don't know except for I can paint them anyway I choose. See the second picture...

Now on with the step back. I should save this til Wednesday, but I finished painting my foyer woodwork and the little wall leading from my foyer to my living room. and moved my cupboard in. It fits perfectly.

This is looking in my front door. Never mind the open bathroom door.

Closer view of the top part.

Closer view of the bottom... Well, I LOVE the color on the woodwork. It really looks drab and kinda like army camo. Hey, why does my dog always want in my pictures. I had to tell him to get out from in front of the cupboard to take this one.

I haven't painted the doors yet. I got to looking and thought maybe it would be too much. So.......... I asked hubby to take the door down and I stripped the paint off. I'll show you that project on Wednesday. This is what I spent most of Friday doing. I just got a sander last night from my BIL so I will sand tomorrow as I have to work today and tonight. It is beautiful under all that paint. Of course a little beat up, but once I decided on a stain and do that it'll look awesome. Hubby says it's my project to do as I please.

What Big Gophers We Must Have

I'm telling you they must be huge! Look at the tunnel they left.

LOL... Never mind that yellow thing sticking up out of the ground. Well, the gas line is in, but of course not without drama. My life would not be fun without drama, AND of course what would I write about and entertain you with if I didn't. So let's start at the beginning. Remember me saying I putt putt (ok miniature golf) course in my yard. Well, like I say they were marking all underground wires we have. Everything is marked with bright orange. Like this... P.S. the light colored house you see the side of will be up for sheriffs auction if any of you want to be my neighbor!

This is what I see when I look out the window. Aren't all the trees wonderful? In the fall they are gorgeous.

Of course I took pictures of the progress and my neighbor, who is also the plumber, thought I was a weirdo. I told him I was doing it to put on my blog not to sue him. He said ok as long as I told all of you his business name. I'm like uhhh no one hear where we live reads this, but if you'd like to travel to other states and countries be my guest. He said he'd be happy to as long as you all would pay the service call. LOL. He's crazy. So I look out the other window to a two foot trench through my flower bed. So I go to inspect. Well, I look down and what do I see? I see our underground downspout drains that we put in last year cut. Yep they accidentally cut the drain tile. So I called hubby and he was like oh crap I forgot about those, but don't worry it's an easy fix. SHHEEWWWW! If not we would have water in our basement again.

Oh the humanity... they dug up my flowers. But in the end they did replant them, but lets hope they survive.

Next thing I know... my doorbell rings. Ummm... do you use the land line telephone wire. No we have digital phone through the cable company why do you ask. Well you see we accidentally cut your phone wire. It wasn't where they marked it at. WHOOPPPSSS!!!! Hubby says it has to fixed, but we shouldn't have to pay for it. So I still have a phone that works no big deal.

But for now it is done and we now wait for the gas company to run the main line down the road. So they too will have to cut up our front yard. So while I was out I took pictures up and down my road. It was just chipped and sealed. Which means they put a layer of tar down and then poured rocks on top of. They do it every year, but it is terrible on your car until the rocks get pushed don into the tar.

Boy I really get long winded... So to end this saga I painted my woodwork and picked up my step back cupboard and can't wait to decorate it all up for you to see.

I'm changing the music up a little in anticipation of the July 4th holiday!

Watcha Working on Wednesday... and yes believe it or not I'm an idiot!!!

LOL... like my title? First, I'll start out with my stupidity or like my title says idiot moment. Last night in our little town we had our July 4th parade. For those who aren't going or don't have a parade I'll post pics on Friday for you to enjoy our parade. Anyhew, my hubby met me at the parade because I came straight from work and he had to take my daughter to the high school because she was in the parade for being student of month last school year. She was so excited. OK OK I'll quit with the other details I know you all want to hear about the idiot thing. OK I have never been to a parade that was 2 hours long. I can only take so much of political floats!!!! I know I digress. This guy, who is wearing a t shirt from the little league team from the town I work in, comes up to me. He's like I've been looking at you all night trying to figure out who you are. I've seen you around town too. Now, I'm looking at this guy like he's crazy and with a blank stare. In my head I'm thinking I have no idea who you are. You know being a paramedic we make all kinds of public appearances and talks and stuff I'm thinking duh my shirt says the town name and EMS. So, he starts asking the normal questions... Where did you graduate and what year... so I told him and he says yeah me too. OK I graduated with this guy and I still don't know who he is. Mind you my class was something like almost 300 kids. He's like I thought I knew you from school but can't remember your name. Me being the person I am wasn't playing the guess who I am game told him my maiden name. He's like Yeah OK I'm glad I stopped you and then didn't tell me who he was. DUH!!!!!! I'm stupid here. Finally I said look I'm really sorry, but I can't place you it has been I long time. So he told me and MAN does he look totally different as we all do when we put on weight and get a few wrinkles. We were never friends, but I did know who he was. We stood there and talked for quite awhile. It is funny how people change when they are out of school for awhile huh?

Anyway, on with the Watcha Working on Wednedsay by Leslie... Many of you know I've been contemplating my foyer. Well, I finally pinned my hubby down to help me repaint on Saturday. I have the wood work color and hope to work on that this afternoon. So, if you look here it'll refresh your memory.

Before.... Like the "Welcoming Wreath" popcorn pip berries and all!!!

Taking pics in a closet sized foyer impossible.

I bought this light for the foyer... it is hand forged.

I really LOVED this color, but it just didn't blend well.

Hey everyone I'm in the bathroom... see how small the foyer is. Oh yeah the dog snot door glad it's dark and you can't see it.

And now drum roll please..... the moment you've been waiting for. The painted walls.
Notice the welcoming bathroom again... hubby threw his dirty clothes ON the washer now not on the floor!!!! LOL.

This color is the same one as in the living room on the top.

Don't you like the round thingy on the closet door. I haven't quit figures out what that is. I am assuming it is so when the door gets opened it doesn't hit the wall and ding it up. Not sure though.

And finally as best as I could the tile floor and wall color together.

So this is what I was working on... hopefully by next week I'll get the rest done. Who knows. The plumber is coming today to lay the natural gas line from the house to the road. We have decided it is way too expensive to heat this old house with propane. We were notified that they found a natural gas well and will be running a line to our allotment starting next week. So after paying $700.00 a month to heat this thing with propane we are biting the bullet and running natural gas. Total cost to hook in... almost $3,000. Why you ask well... I now have to pay $1000 to hook into the main gas line, pay the plumber to run the line, I now have to have a new hot water tank, and exchange system on my furnace. We weren't expecting this, but I can't afford not too with propane prices increasing. I need to run out and snap a pic of my putt putt golfing yard. I have flags everywhere marking all the other lines that run underground. Til tomorrow I'll let you know how it goes.

Animals are strange...

As many of you know I have a black lab. He is around 8 years old has the grey beard and arthritis. But don't we all. No laughing or comments about the red carpet. LOL I cringe at this carpet... I hate this carpet... No, I loathe this carpet. It is the only carpet left in the house. The wood floors are unfinished underneath, so there is no pulling it up anytime soon.

I LOVE this dog now, but haven't always. Let's start from the beginning. Puppies are so cute I'm sure you'll agree. My dog was no exception. The puppy face and the big awkward paws. But oh boy how things change. As my puppy grew older he developed separation anxiety. I would go to the basement and he would stand at the top of the steps and pee. He always laid right behind me when I was doing dishes or in the kitchen, hence the name Shadow. Then he developed intense itching started losing his hair. Take him to the vet he has to be allergy tested and wouldn't you know he is allergic to everything and must get allergy injections just like a human would. No... I couldn't have a normal dog. Then of course when my kids were little and they would open the door he would bolt out and run. There was no catching this dog. Or if he wasn't running he was chewing holes in my couch or running across the living room peeing from end to end, chewing the kids socks, or hiding out under my son's bed. I remember the one day I was so fed up I took his collar off and sent him out the door. Told him he no longer belonged to us since he liked to run then go. Do you know that stupid dog who loved to run sat at my back door and never ran just sat there looking in with the big puppy eyes like MOM what are you doing? So of course I let him back in and listed him in the local newspaper for sale. And yes of course no one called. Are you seeing the pattern? We were stuck with him. Well, years later he got out and was hit by a car after that point he never left the yard again and became a very tame dog. Skip ahead til now. He is now growing old is content to lay around and sleep or go out on the front porch and sit and watch the cars go by. He is still very quirky though take the other day for instance.

I made this floor cloth and have it in my upstairs hall.

I've had it there for a couple months now. This hall leads into my bedroom straight ahead and the 2nd bathroom on the right. We have hardwood floors all upstairs. Anyway, the other day I am in the bedroom and the dog is sitting on the rug whining. He will not budge off that rug. He gets up puts one paw on the floor and the piece of flooring moves a little because it is just a little loose. Well, he freaks out and won't move. I'm standing there calling him and telling him to come in so I can pet him. Nope not moving. So, in order to get him to move I had to walk past him and go back downstairs. Now, after that instance he's been fine. I'm telling you my dog is just quirky.

OK... I know you don't want to hear about my dog. But, do you get I'm showing bits and pieces of the house. hehe. Pretty sneaky if you ask me. I've been working so I don't have any thing I've been working except........... I'm not gonna reveal it til tomorrow for Watcha working on Wednesday. I'm a brat huh???

Oh yeah, I was working yesterday and my SIL Tiffany went to another of my favorite shops sale and bought me something I've been wanting for a long time. A trash can. WOOOHOOOO a trash can you say. It's not just any trash can, but a trash can in a wood box surround that tilts out. Nope no pics as I haven't seen it yet. Why you say? Well, I picked it up last night and had it in my car, but never saw it because I worked til midnight and when I got home I went straight to bed. Got up this AM to get ready for work and my hubby took my car to work. So no pics of that either. She got 40% off that for me too. Boy one these days when I off you are gonna get to see a lot of pictures of all the prim stuff I bought. And I also was given a flat bed scanner for my computer, so now I can scan in some pics from a long time ago. I am just hoping it is compatible with Windows Vista.

Well, stay tuned because there will be a little preview tomorrow of what I've been working on. HEHE you hate me don't you.... :-)
