Update...

My partner and I have been on stand down until Monday or Tuesday after Gustav hits the gulf. Remember when I went to those really boring classes? Well, this is an instance where I would use it. Our county picked my partner and I as the only ones going down I think because I had those classes in management level. We were to leave by midnight last night for Alexandria, Louisiana for evacuations, however, we were going with other people from the state of Ohio and it is a 17 hour drive and we could not get down in time for evacuations so we were told to wait. Wait until the hurricane hits and then if needed we will be headed down for an unknown amount of time. It was initially told to us we would be down there until Sept 8th, but they said that will change if we head down later. I will try to keep you updated as I know and I thank you each for your out pouring of prayers and please continue. There is always a chance if it isn't as bad as expected that we won't have to go so for my kids sake please pray for this option.

So in case I leave and you don't have to wait... Remember this was a rush job on the pictures so you all could see.

Now you know why I have covers on my furniture.

I am leaving...

Everyone please keep me in your prayers as I have been deployed to Lousiana for the hurricane. I don't know when I will be back.

Fat Friday and an Award

I am so thrilled a brand new friend Jan gave me a this awesome award "The Primitive Excellence Award". She told me she has "quietly" been reading my blog. I am so glad she left a comment as like I told her I like meeting new friends and reading new blogs. So, for those of you others who quietly read my blog please speak up.

Of course there are rules for this award so here they are.

1.) Copy and put the Award Logo on your Blog.
2.) Add a link to the Person who awarded you.
3.)Nominate 7 blogs who haven't received the award yet.
4.) Add links to those blogs on your blog.
5.) Leave a message for your nominees on their blogs!

Here are the seven I chose:

Cranberry Crossings
Country Girl at Home
Black Sheep Prims
Peper Creek Gatherings
Raggedy Angel
Tomato Creek Primitives
Cozy Coop Corner

Well, to those who read my blog daily I am sorry no post yesterday, but I made myself decorate for fall. I am 3/4s of the way done because I ran out of stuff. Can you believe that? I am so excited though because my MIL called me Wednesday and asked if I wanted to go shopping in Berlin (Ohio Amish Country) on Saturday as they are having a sale from 8a-10a with 20% off in one of my favorite stores. So of course I told her YES. I tell my hubby I am going becuase I ran out of stuff so he says "You really ran out of stuff? I thought you had a lot more stuff...how could you be out. But what you've done so far has put me in the fall mood." My hubby is very supportive of my style and decorating. I did tell him not to get used to it because it would probably change. He said " I don't get used to it until the fall comes down and you decorate for Christmas. That way I know you're done moving it around." LOL. So I moved furniture cleaned and dusted. I always say things have to speak to me on where to put them. For now I do have to tell you it is already somewhat different than the last pictures you saw. BUT no pictures yet. I will wait when the sun is out to take them. I also went to the thrift store and bought yes more fabric and zinc lids for my jars. I am at work today so no other pictures today. Sorry.

BUT here is my Fat Friday recipe:

My lasagna...

lasagna noodles uncooked
1 lb of browned hamburger or sausage
1 container of ricotta cheese
1 bag of cheese (I use cheddar)
2 jars of spaghetti sauce (or one big jar)
other things that you like mixed in peppers, mushrooms, or whatever

Brown your hamburger and add onion if you'd like. While you are waiting for that I start assembling my lasagna. I pour sauce in the bottom of a 9X13 glass baking dish enough to cover it well (Keeps the bottom from burning) Next place your uncooked noodles on the sauce one single layer. Then after the hamburger is done I put that on top of noodles. I then put a whole container of ricotta cheese on the meat. If adding anything else throw that in too. I then put a layer of cheddar cheese and top with more uncooked noodles one layer. I then pour more sauce on top of the noodles and cover with foil. I put it into a 350 degree oven for 1 hour. Once done pull out and put more cheese on top and let it melt. So easy !!!

Watcha Working on Wednesday

In honor of Leslie, who at the moment is at the fair having fun, I have decided to carry on with my Watcha Workin on Wednesday. Now, you will be allowed in for a rare glimpse into my real life. This is not a reenactment, this is the real thing. For those who have anxiety it is best not to look at this awful monster. Please go to someone elses blog. Ok.... for those who are left and enjoy walking on edge here it is... I am sure you have never seen anything like it... Oh the thought... I have no idea what to think... I am at a loss for words (for once) hehe not really!!! Oh the devastation....

The Day the Prim Fairy Threw Up!!!! (hehe Elise you know what I'm talking about)

Yes I am taking down my summer decor and packing it up. Hey look my goose is mooning you!!!! LOL.

I just kinda throw stuff everywhere until I decided where it should go. Notice the black and orange tub... yep color coordinate for fall. I keep all my fall in this color... fancy I know. I still have a couple more upstairs in the attic this is not all. Fear not!!!!

Don't get too excited yet... I'm sure my cabinet and dry sink won't stay like this. Things will move around a hundred times.

Ummmm... yeah I have all these Longaberger baskets that I don't really want to decorate with, but I spent lots of ebay money on these. They are very hard to fit in with what I envision.

Do you recognize the fruit??? LOL. Yeah they just move around the house. This probably won't stay like this either.

Last but not least my kitchen. I am so not happy with above my cupboards. I know what I want, but can't afford it and it makes me sad. I know give it time... but yet again it'll change.

Geez I should've taken pics of my basement too. I'm pretty proud of it, but I did that not too long ago so I won't do it again. Other than that I haven't done a darn thing. I need to though. I guess there is always tomorrow.

Tutorial Tuesday

Awhile back I showed you the top of a table I painted. Several people asked if I would show how to make the pattern to duplicate it. So after showing the directions to my friend Tracey she said she followed it, and did a wonderful job might I add, I thought I'd share with you. Here is the top again.

I fold my paper in half then half again to gve me the midpoint, then you can draw stright lines on the fold if you'd like for guide lines. Decide on the size of square in the middle you want to start with. This one is 1 inch. Now every measurement you do will be 1 inch with the exception of one time. Depending on how big you want will determine how long you make the lines off the side of the square. I extended mine 3 inches from the top and bottom of the square.. Now at every inch mark a dot. To get started the only measurement less than 1 inch. Go to the 1/2 inch mark on your lines of the square and measure up 1/2 inch and put a dot. Now this changes again measure up 1 inch from that first 1/2 inch dot and put another dot. Continue the 1 inch after that. Now connect the first set of dots as shown.

Draw 45 degree angles from the corners of the square and mark a dot at every 1 inch.

Draw straight lines up marking every inch. If you notice there is a 90 degree angle at the base of the line.. Now connect the dots. Do this all the way around by the way. I'm just showing one side.

This is hard to explain so I'm hoping the pic shows it. The part you just drew prior draw a line straight up marking an inch with a dot. There is a dot at the 2" mark. Connect as shown.

I did a couple more to show you how to continue. Now if you'd like I can color it in to give you the idea, but I think you'll get the idea from the top.

I am hoping I have not confused you, but if so give me a holler. I know what I want to say, but sometimes it all doesn't come out. LOL.

Is the Weekend Over?

So I said I wouldn't be back until Monday because I had things to get done. Well, I tried I honestly did. My son went to my sister's house to spend the night Friday night. Friday night was my 24 hour shift at the station so I got nothing done at home. I came home Saturday morning at 6:30 at went back to bed for another 2 hours. So now my morning was shot. My DD says that she is going to her friend's house to spend the night and she needs to be there by 1pm. I'm thinking this is awesome I will have the afternoon to myself to do something. Hubby is a the farm doing chores so I will get lots done. So I head down to the basement to my craft area. I need to get some crafts done, but I can't see my table. So I figure I need to reorganize this area before sitting down to do anything. I turn on HGTV and figure I'll listen while I work. Ahhhhh.... the silence. I am an hour into cleaning when my parents decide to stop over unannounced. So, I must stop what I'm doing in the basement to come up and talk to them. In the meantime, my sister calls to say she is having a cookout at 5pm and to come over and eat then I could pick up my son. Sounds good to me not having to cook. Well, I keep telling my parents I need to go because they are eating at 5pm. (My parents already had something else planned and weren't going to the cookout.) So, at 7pm my parents decide it is time to go because the restaurant they were going to closed at 8pm so they had better hurry. Yeah, I arrive 2 hours late at my sisters and of course everyone had already eaten. I watch my son ride the four wheeler and dirt bike and came home around 9 pm. Now mind you my basement is still nowhere near done. I was frustrated so I went to bed.

Sunday, I wait for my DD to call to go pick her up and dig in on the basement. I did get it started when my hubby suggested we go to Lowes and wherever I wanted to go. I ended up at Pat Catans and bought a fall wreath for my front door. I saw lots of other stuff I wanted too, but thought I wouldn't bore my hubby any more and return later. While at Lowes we bought some wood to build my son a sand box. He made a remark to my sister about wanting one since her son had one. Well, last night my son and hubby built him a huge sandbox that we'll put under the deck. While they were working on that I came in and finished reorganizing my craft room again! We finally got out much needed rain last night. It hasn't rained in two weeks and the cracks in the ground are huge.

Now I promised I'd show you my thrift store finds so here we go...

My little twiggy wreath...

I got four of these matching place mats. I love the colors for fall. They look practically brand new.

The towel rack, though, I'm debating whether to paint it. It probably won't be staying here either, but I had to put it somewhere. Incidentally... everything but the pitcher and towels were thrift store finds too just nor on this trip.

I love the rag blankets, this one was just awesome at $2.00. I figure I'd buy some RIT dye and make it darker.

Lastly, this is the item I sprinted for... The copper pot. I have no idea what I'm going to do with it but I loved it. It was $3.00. Right now it is inside waiting for a purpose. I figure I'd put some fall stuff in it like pumpkins and gourds.

So there you have it. My thrift store finds for last week. I was pretty proud of myself for only spending a little over $8.00. I am trying so hard not to go today because I know Monday's are when the one shop puts out new stuff. I don't need anymore until I put stuff away and start decorating for fall.

Some Fall Eye Candy... Fat Friday Recipe

Well I have been talking about my good friend Kim's shop I go to. Well, I spent the day with her in the shop on Wednesday helping her take some pictures and get things in order for something awesome she is working on! So while I was there for 8 hours LOL I yelled at her to send me the pics so I could show all of you her shop. I am so excited because she asked me if I would mind working in the shop every now and again for her. I told her absolutely as she would never have to write me a check I would just spend what I earned on stuff. I can't wait!!!! Anyway, I am going back next week to help her again. So ladies feast your eyes on my most favorite shop.... Salt Creek Mercantile... Fredericksburg Ohio

My MIL bought this dry sink...

Need I say more.... It is so fabulous. Kim is just like me in how we tell people what is on our mind and are very straight forward. I think that is why we get along. I am humbled that she asks my opinion on things in the shop and what my thoughts are. I am just so excited to work for her!!!! I know I need another job like a need another hole in the head. LOL.

Now if that wasn't good enough my Fat Friday recipe.

Puppy Chow

1 cup sweet chocolate chips
1/4 cup butter
3/4 cup peanut butter
8 c Crispix cereal
2 c powdered sugar

Combine chocolate chips, butter and peanut butter. Heat in microwave until smooth. Pour over cereal: toss until cereal is coated. Sprinkle powdered sugar over coated cereal. Or put powered sugar in ziploc bag put the cereal inside and shake until coated. Great grab and go snack.

I was going to show you my thrift store finds, but I thought the store pics were much better. I show my goodies on Monday. Have a great weekend as I really need to get some stuff done around here, so I'm not posting again til Monday. I will be stopping in to read all your blogs periodically though.

OH and a hug THANK You to Andrea and Leslie for giving me the "I LOVE your blog" award. I am so humbled by everyone's generosity in the blog world. Thanks again ladies!!!!

The Smile Award...

I was awarded this awesome award called The Smile Award by two very dear friends I have met since joining the blog world. Linda from Behind My Red Door, who has the most wonderful ideas on life and decorating gave me this award. Linda's adventures, pictures, kind words, advice, and Angel work inspire me. You are such a fabulous lady Linda. Robin from The Robin's Nest, who I found through Linda, also a wonderful lady with great pictures and craft ideas also gave the award to me too. Robin is always talking about her kids, her wonderful husband, and love of God's nature make me smile. She tells her story through pictures and words and you feel like you are there with her. Both of these ladies were very deserving of this award and hence then passed it on to me. Well, thank you from the bottom of my heart for giving the award to me it means a lot to me that people enjoy my blog and that I can give you a laugh every now and again. I am not afraid to laugh at myself and show you that I am down to earth and make a ton of mistakes. Which reminds me of a story I need to tell you, but this part is the serious post.

Leslie from My Country Home always has something up her sleeve for herself and family. I look forward to reading her blog as she immerses herself with the things she loves and people who mean the most. She gives me the best ideas to try in my home.

Ann from This Simple Life is so sweet and kind when she emails me and asks for help. I tell you she has the best ideas and makes me want to make crafts all day. Her tutorials and want to do the best for her family inspire me.

Rondell of Tomato Creek Prims one of the first ladies I met through the blog world. I absolutely love her outlook on life and when I first met her her hubby was in between jobs, but yet she stayed so positive for him. She has a wonderful thrifty side and great sense of decorating. I look forward to reading her blog.

Jo Anne of The Carter Clan I know I give her all the awards, but I just think the world of her. She loves life, her family, and God! I have talked with her through emails and she is such a wonderful advocate for her family in ways some of you might not know. She gives freely, loves much, and laughs often. Of course she can sew like you wouldn't believe. LOL.

And of course Kindra of 3 Guys, a Girl and a Prim Place I think this lady has amazing talent and is so kind and giving. She talks about her boys like a proud mama should. Everything she does to better her family and loved ones. Her decorating style is superb too.

Please visit these ladies and you'll know what I mean.

Also Ann from This Simple Life also wanted me to tell 7 things about myself that no one knows, but I did that here so if you haven't already this makes for a good laugh. Now don't think I have other things that are quite strange about me because I do. I am one strange lady, but I don't want to make this post too long. LOL.

Watcha Working on Wednesday... Supertabulous!!!!

Alrighty everyone my son has come up with a new word "Supertabulous!!!" Yes this was the way he described his first day of school. I will keep you updated on when the word changes because it will. It will start getting tough and he'll hate school in... I'll give it a week. My DD came home excited that she met a new friend Brent, who is in her special ed classes, and the other "friend" Eric is in like 3 of her classes. He was very excited to see her. LOL. The school is so awesome as my DD has a class called "Tech Ed" basically it is computer class. But you should hear what they are doing. She will be doing web design, picture editing, and other stuff I can't remember. So maybe she'll strike up an interest in that and be able to help me. She is very excited.

So on to Leslie's (My Country Home) Watcha working on Wednesday. Remember the chalkboard I bought....

I painted the frame...

I hung it at the bottom of the steps coming down from upstairs. That way my kids will see it when they come down and are getting ready for school. With my kids I have to get specific and remind them of little things or they don't do them. The peg rack below was a redo also and I quick sewed up a bag to hold the chalk. I still need to coffee stain it, but you get the idea. I just got it hung last night so I was trying to throw it together for you to see. I still want to hang a sign above the chalkboard that says Grand Central Station, but I don't have the wood to do that.

This is what the peg rack looked like before...

I also painted the Tater Bin... now I haven't sanded or primmed it up yet. I am deciding what I want to paint on it or leave it plain. I was thinking some type of quilt pattern on the lid and the front, BUT I don't know.

Yesterday one of errands was to pick up my screen door I purchased Saturday. Now I only have a Chevy Blazer and if you'll keep in mind a screen door is pretty big. OK a lot bigger than I anticipated. Picture this the girl from the store and I open the back of my truck lift this door in and slide it in. The edge of the door reaches from the front seat to the back gate of my car. She looks at me and says "Well if you duck your head a little you should be able to drive home." So I jump in the driver's seat head ducked driving home. Good thing I have tinted windows huh!!!! LOL. So here it is... Don't mind the shoes that's another project.

I also went to the thrift store because I was out and had to go to the bank next door. Anyway I got some some great stuff that I will show you later because this post is long enough. I am SOOOOO excited. Once again I saw something someone had in their hands and was bummed because I wanted it. So.... patiently I waited and out of the corner of my eye he put it down. I sprinted over there snatched it up and bought it. I just need to figure out where to put it. LOL. You're curious aren't you... admit it... you're thinking what could be that good.... trust me it's awesome!!!! But no I'm not telling or showing today. :-p

First Day of School.... Freezing Corn

Well, I came home last night after a twelve hour day to my hubby waiting for me to freeze 12 dozen corn. I knew we needed to do it, but I was not motivated, but then again when am I. We decided to keep the mess confined to the garage. After all, we had to shuck it, blanch it and then put it in an ice water bucket. So my son, who was my slave because he got in to trouble yesterday and is now grounded, was helping. He did a great job shucking the corn but had a little trouble with the silk. Anyway, we got it all done in and cleaned up in about 2 hours. Not too bad...

And the saga begins... You knew I couldn't not take pictures right???

An ice cold bucket of water...

A Boy....

A Dad, who likes to torment above boy.....

A Dog, who is suppose to love water..... but doesn't (and also gets tormented by above Dad)

Dog who really hates water....

Boy, who dunked his own head in the water because above Dad picked him up and dunked his head in the water for him when Mom didn't have the camera.

All went well this morning getting the kids on the bus except for the fact no pictures because the bus was 15 minutes early. AHHHHHHH.... the kids were running out the door. My son was so excited to go back and see all of his friends again. My DD actually tried to do her hair and was excited to go to school too. Now the dog and I are cleaning the kitchen and getting ready to do errands. The silence again until 3pm. What to do what to do???? LOL Oh wait I know get things done!!!! LOL.

Great Weekend !!!!

My MIL, SIL Tiffany (Tiffany's Primitive Place) Aunt in law and I all decided we needed to do some shopping. Ok Tiffany needed to take some of her handmade primitive items to one of our favorite shops to sell there. I was going to take my camera and take pics, but of course air headed me forgot it. DUH!!!! So, you'll have to use your imagination until next time. I am so mad at myself because I even told Tiffany don't let me forget it. GRRR.... Anyway, so we stop at Audrey's Attic, which is a mix of primitive and country because she was having a sale. You get to pick your percent off your sale up to 50%. She gives like 10 books to pick from and each one has a book mark inside with a different percent off. I picked a 30% off, so a lot more things became appealing. LOL. I bought crow soaps scented with cloves, cinnamon, nutmeg, and the like. This pic was taken in the bathroom so I had to use a flash and it came out yellowy. I bought 4 of and put them in a jar in the bathroom. They were already marked down to $1.99 then an additional 30% off.

I also bought a really yummy smelling candle that smells kinda like popcorn. I also have a coffee, cream, and sugar candle by the same person. I am saving them for fall and winter. I also bought some pods to put in a jar. They were hard to get a good picture of so I'll have to work on that and post a pic later. I also bought a screen door to put on my porch as a decoration. I had to leave it there because we didn't have the room to take it with us. I'll pick it up Tuesday when I'm off work.

Next, we went to the antique store and flea market. I didn't buy anything there, though I did see a lot of stuff. Oh wait I lied I bought a Twix candy bar and a pot scrubbie. LOL. What... I needed my energy. Tiffany found some great stuff that I'm hoping she'll post on her blog too.

So off to our friend Kim's store Salt Creek Mercantile in Fredericksburg. This is the store I wanted pictures of the most. Her store is absolutely gorgeous. She promised she would take pics and email them to me to put on here for you. Anyway, she had her spring summer stuff marked down to 50% off so I picked up these towels...the mustard napkin was from Audrey's Attic.

I did then splurge and pay full price for the broom corn and this awesome coverlet. The broom corn will not be staying here. I just needed some where to put it until I redecorate.

Next we were off to the thrift store in Kidron. But what is a trip to Kidron without getting ice cream at Lehman's. They still had my favorite blueberry waffle cone so we quick got more sugar to keep us going. Tiffany and I ran across the street quick to the flea market and thought the people we saw were way over priced, so we left. The sign out in front of the thrift store said they were having a sale on their fabric, but when we got inside it was all double knits and synthetics. So we were a bit disappointed. Now, this thrift store is in Amish country and they have authentic Amish clothes hence real Amish people shop there. There were a few that day and I was trying to hide the fact that I was looking at the Plain (Amish) clothes rack to see what was there. I just feel funny buying their clothes to use in my home and not for my kids to wear. They do give you weird looks too, so I was hiding behind the rack and watching the one couple walking away before I went up to it. I'm glad I looked on the rack because I found my little boys clothes to go with my dress and bonnet. I don't like the way this looks right now... I need to arrange it or add to it or something. I'm just not sure yet. I'm thinking one of those long baskets or one of Kindra's candle holders she has on her Etsy. Or a Simplify sign up above. Any suggestions???

I also found some great stencils to use on my floor cloths too for $.25 to $.50 a piece.

Now I get up to the counter to pay and low and behold that same Amish couple is standing there too. The same ones giving me the evil eye when I was looking at the Amish clothes. LOL. Oh well, whether I buy it or they buy it the money goes to mission work. But that is just my luck is all.

Sunday was our grocery shopping trip for school lunch food and for me to look at Wal-mart fabric. I wanted to buy some more brown fabric like what I used on my aprons and it was all gone. Bummer!!!!! I am hoping they get more in. Other than that I was slowly starting to take down some of my Spring/Summer decorations and putting away and reorganizing. I am considering moving my furniture around again. I drive my hubby crazy when I move stuff, but I have those great saucer looking movers that I put under the corners and I just start moving away. We'll see once I get everything down and I start with a blank slate.

Behind My Red Door Giveaway

Please check out Linda's blog Behind My Red Door as she is having a giveaway.

Isn't this all awesome goodies. Sure hope I win!!!!

Fat Friday Recipe...

I don't have anything out of this world this week. I've been so busy working and school shopping I haven't had a lot of time to cook great meals so I'm going to tell you a favorite of my kids. This recipe is basically from Pampered Chef.

Taco Ring
2 cans of crescent rolls
1 lb of ground beef browned with onion if you so choose
1 package of taco seasoning
cheese (we use cheddar)
taco garnishments

Preheat your oven to whatever the crescent can says. I think normally 425 degrees. Brown your ground beef and add your taco seasoning according to the package. Set aside. Take the crescent rolls and break them apart on the dotted lines so that you have triangles. Place the long pointy tip so that it points toward you on a cookie sheet. Lay the remaining pieces in a circle that reminds you of a sun (I sometimes have 2 left out of both cans). Now I use my little pastry roller and use it to indent the dough in the middle leaving a "lip" around the center. If it makes it easier place a small bowl in the middle of the baking sheet so that you leave a circle. Now take your taco meat and pile it in the indent around the circle. Keep piling until you have mounds. I then take and sprinkle cheese on top of the beef. Take the points that are facing you and pull them over top of the beef towards the middle and pinch it to the lip you left. Continue all the way around. You should be able to see some of the beef peeking out in places. Place it in your preheated oven for about 12-15 minutes until golden brown and done. Serve with taco garnishments like tomatoes, olives, sour cream, taco sauce, or whatever you like. I've seen people take a red pepper clean all the insides out and fill with sour cream in put in the circle in the middle.

We went and got the kid's hair cut yesterday. All went well we'll see how my DD hair styling and cut go. We got more layers cut into it and thinned out. She actually has a style now. Still very easy to take care of though. I love the girls that cut our hair. It is a little two seater shop in a very small town with just a post office and one restaurant. $21.50 for two haircuts. I can handle that.

I decided since we were out we'd stop at the Goodwill to see if there were any school clothes for the kids and of course treasures for me. My son was looking at golf clubs, which I already bought him 4 at a $1.00 a piece during my last shopping trip. I couldn't keep my DD interested in looking at clothes so she went to look at the books. She found the book "The Notebook" and had to have it. Hmmmm... ask to buy a book to read absolutely I'll buy it. I did happen to find her a pair of shorts that covers everything and with a higher waste that would be suitable for school. My son refused to try on a pair of jeans so we left them. I knew this trip would be fruitless for them so I looked for me. I was looking at all the picture frames when I spotted two small chalkboards. Score I'm thinking I don't need the chalkboard paint after all. They were $.50 a piece. I told my son my plans for them and he got excited and grabbed them. We looked around a little more and went back over to the junk section as I call it where they have headboards and huge ugly pictures and such. My son pulls out a big chalkboard. Oh I got really excited except it had something printed at the bottom in permanent paint. So I was bummed. That was going to work a ton better than these little ones. I kept looking and Voila I found exactly what I was looking for. Yes it is laying on my painting mat getting ready for a face lift. I will hopefully be able to show you the redo by Wednesday next week. I am so excited. My kids are excited about it too. And if you are wondering $3.50 for my chalkboard. I still bought the smaller chalk boards too at the urging of my son, who has already painted the frame of his. (smiling) What a good boy I have.

Earlier yesterday morning I ran to the post office to bid fair well to some of my goodies to their new homes and decided to drown my sorrows at a local furniture store that is closing up. They are having a sale. Right now it is only 35%-40% off. So I looked around a found a few things on my wish list and bought a few things. The lady told me they would be marking stuff down each week a little bit. So hubby says we need to make it a weekly trip to see. I couldn't leave empty handed so this is what I came home with. No I didn't pay the $29 dollars you see in the grain measure. Are you kidding me??? I don't pay full price for anything. I knew I had to have the candle holders at $5.00 a piece. They area all different sizes and will look awesome in a grouping for fall.

I have decided that next week I will start pulling down my summer and spring decorations in preparation of fall decorating. I can't wait any longer. This will be a long process as I have to clean and dust too before anything goes back up. Anyone else starting yet??? Is it too early??? Let me know.

What To Do... Website Has Been Updated

Need I say more my website has been updated... One of you already found it ;-) I am not naming any names here... but you all can beat her later. LOL. Check here Gettysburg Homestead.

Look what my hubby's boss gave him to bring home to me. I have no idea what or where I am going to use them for or put them. But I so love them. I suppose I could put flowers in them, but then you'd have to drill holes in the bottom to let the water out. Oh I know for my potions since I am such a witch sometimes. LOL. One is copper and one is cast iron. Hmmmm.... I haven't even tried to lift them yet. Like the snow plow... yeah that hangs out in my driveway year round. Very pretty isn't it?

Today is haircut day in anticipation of school starting Tuesday, so this should be fun. My DD needs a hairstyle that is easy to take care of because she has a hard time getting conditioner out of her hair because it is so thick. She is also very sensitive on her scalp to combs, brushes, barrettes, or ponytails so most times she won't brush her hair or style it either. This is so hard for me because she is in eighth grade and I remember doing my hair and caring what I looked like. Age wise she is there but mental maturity wise she is lagging and always will. Jeans and t-shirts untied shoes and messy hair is how she goes to school. I've tried to buy her other clothes and they sit there. I guess for me it is picking my battles. This is the least of my worries with her at this stage. She is excited about school starting to see all her friends again and her new "friend" yes a boy Eric. He called her this summer and told her he liked her for who she was. If you'll remember this was the boy who came to her birthday party. I am so happy for her.

I'll catch up with all your blogs later today.

Watcha Working on Wednesday

Many of you know Leslie from My Country Home started Watcha Working on Wednesday awhile back and of course I jumped on board. By doing this it makes me keep moving on stuff and being creative. I find it hard to motivate myself sometimes so she does it for me. I like to plan ahead and decide what I'm going to do the next week. Many of you know I have been working on "stuff" to put on my website. I hate calling it "stuff", but what else can I use... primitive needfuls, junk to some, things, ...oh I don't know. Oh I know how about dirt prim grungy needfuls YOU have to have for your home. LOL. I find myself going a bit of a different direction with my creations recently. I really do like what I am evolving into. Anyway, enough of the blabber here's what I've been working on....

I love corn cob dolls....

My table mat... I'd call it a candle mat, but it's a bit big for that. Anyway are the leaves fabulous. They are actually crunchy like real leaves. Not sure if I can part with this but you never know.

Of course a prairie doll with a pumpkin just for the season.

I decided to try a prim towel. I added a fabric loop on the back to hang it from.

A close up of the fabric patch I added.

My favorite things to make.... I LOVE LOVE LOVE oh did I say LOVE to make aprons and bonnets. Of course these are my own pattern and each one is different. I have made a few just out of muslin for myself that are hanging in my kitchen. This one is a dark blue...

Brown and tan obviously...

And of course light blue... I know they aren't fallish but hey I leave them up year round.

I tried a couple pumpkins... this pic was taken this am in the dark because I didn't want to turn the light on to take the pic cuz hubby fell asleep on the couch.

Last but not least another girl scarecrow. I don't remember who commented on my last one that they had never seen a girl scarecrow... so that was it I wanted to be different so I created another one. I want to create things that you don't see anywhere else. You can't see too well but she has on red pantaloons under her dress. She turned out so adorable. Sorry sooooo prim. LOL

So there you have it what I've been working on. I told you not to go get yourself worked up. I, however, am very excited about my creations. I would love to be able to get these on my website on Thursday at some point. We'll see how things go between now and then.

I am in the beginning stages of thinking about my 100th post giveaway. Yeah yeah I know that is like 20 some posts away, but I want to make it a good one. I am trying to decide what will people want for FREE (bwaaaaahaaaaahaaaaa) so I'm trying to laugh like I'm spooky LOL. Did you get that??? Hmmm.... twenty some posts will be near my birthday too. Boy there are going to be some lucky people out there. What to do what to do... guess you'll all have to wait til closer.

Now I'm gonna embarrass someone who reads my blog I think. I like looking at my Feedit Live thing to see where people are coming from to read my blog. The other day I noticed someone from my hometown was here. Now I won't tell you the town name, but the person will know by the next few comments I make. This town holds the annual Blue Tip parade in June, you have the Ella Everhard library, ummm... Casa Del Rio restaurant, and Thurbers Jewelry store is there. hehe if they read this they are gonna be like wha..... if this is you please leave a comment or email me. My parents still live there. Don't you just love calling people out. LOL. They are probably like hey I just want to be a lurker I can't believe she just did that. Well, if you haven't read my blog from the beginning yep I'm like that. I see everything just like I tell my kids... I have eyes everywhere.... LOL. Please don't be shy and not leave a comment I don't bite really.... I love meeting new people. Everyone here is just one big happy family... Are you humming Kum Ba Yah yet???? Well if you weren't thinking I was crazy before you really are now!!!!

Tuesday Tutorial #3

Alright today is the last day for the Tuesday Tutorial on floor cloths. Please everyone keep in mind that I am not a professional and this may not be the best way to make these, but this is the way I do it. If you want to check out some awesome floor cloths and have any further questions I can't answer check out this blog http://canvasworksfloorcloths.com/wordpress/

So where were we.... oh yes.... I was finished painting.

After I made sure it was dry I decided to make mine a little darker. An aged look if you will. I happen to have Chestnut Minwax gel stain on hand so that is what I used. You will thank me later when I tell you to wear rubber gloves and old clothes. I used an old t-shirt sleeve to wipe the stain on. The first coat I wiped on in one direction. I tried to wipe some off as I was going, but that didn't go to well so what I did was kept going over it with the sleeve to lighten it. I then let this dry for a few hours and went back to put on a second coat that I then went in a circular motion with the stain. This picture is after the first coat.

After the stain dried completely after a few hours... ok days.... I couldn't get back to it right away. I then put 4 coats of polyurethane on it letting it dry completely between coats. If you happen to have polyacrylic that works just as well. After it dries completely you are ready to use it. In order to clean it you should be able to use mild soap and water to wash it then dry it off. I do not recommend you use it outside as the weather will eventually ruin it. Also if you live anywhere that gets snow and salt don't use it at the door where you come in. I highly recommend you put one of those rubber floor mats under your floor cloth so that it does not slide. If you made a small one sometimes you can buy the rubber shelf liner and that works great too. Like I said this is where I decided mine should go. Again my dog would not walk on it at first he stood at the top of the steps of my DD room and whined.

Now a question for all of you... Where can I find blackboard paint the cheapest?

Good Morning!

The ride on the way to class was not as good as it was the weekend before so I only got a few pics. It is hard to take pics out the window and drive at the same time. LOL. So on the way home I did stop and take a few. Funny thing is I did not see any buggies on the road except one on my way to class and he was facing me. That is a no no taking pictures of their faces so I respected that and kept driving. Once fall gets here and the kids go to school I will go take some more pics in a different area. But as promised here's a couple pics.

This home is about 5 minutes from my house. It is an Amish home, but not like most other ones. Normally they are white and very neatly kept and tons of flowers. Sorry this was hard to take going around a curve... I believe they rent this home my hubby says. Fixed up wouldn't this be awesome!!!! All the windows are the original wavy glass.

This is where I was the entire last weekend and Saturday of this week. Yes, it's the jail aka "The Sheriff's bed and breakfast", but believe it or not I wasn't in that part. LOL. Yes this class was as boring as last week.

Of course I had to show a school. They don't really have much equipment to play on. Normally you see them all playing baseball or soccer in the yard. See the outhouse in the back. Yep no indoor plumbing still. Their school year is different because of planting and harvest. I am not sure how they do it though.

This is my absolute favorite house. You can get apple butter from them. I love the color of this Amish home. Normally she has a ton of laundry hanging outside.

I know this is pretty boring, but this is how they stack wheat by hand to dry. The original field I wanted to show you from last week was already picked up so I found this one.

Last but not least I found a buggy. I had to turn of the normal road to find one out to take a picture of. Sometimes you'll see some that are open wagons, some have head lights, some still use lanterns hung on the sides, but they are all according to law are suppose to have one of those orange triangle slow moving vehicle placards on the back.

Alright girls don't work yourself up too much as I don't want to hype up what I'm making too much. That way you aren't disappointed on Wednesday. LOL. Some of it fall and some of it is everyday. Unfortunately, I may not be able to give some of it up as I like it too much. LOL. That is the hardest part is giving up my items when I make them in the style I like, but if I know they are going to a good home that appreciates them it makes it easier. LOL.

OK... the third and final part of Tutorial Tuesday is tomorrow, so be ready to finish up your project. Have a great rest of the day! We are off to buy school shoes.

Fat Friday Recipe!!!!

So sorry this is late, but I had a very busy night at work last night and I came home a crashed for 2 hours. So now I am running so far behind. Today I should have been cleaning, but I decided to make crafts today. I am working some things for my website and as of now I just need to prim them up and they'll be ready.

For my recipe I thought I would share one of my Grandma's recipes and words of wisdom. When I married the first time at my bridal shower everyone was to bring a copy of their favorite recipe for me to have when I got married. My grandma went and bought a spiral bound index card booklet to start writing down recipes. Unfortunately, she got brain cancer and passed away not too long after she wrote part of this so it was never finished. So I will share with you today her recipe for Lemon Sauce.

Lemon Sauce
2 TBSP cornstarch
1/2 cup sugar
1 cup boiling water
lemon flavoring and a dash of nutmeg

That's all she wrote. However, she added these words of wisdom.

Good to use on stale cake or cupcakes. Put cake in a saucer and pour over. You can't throw away stale cake. You have to learn to save if you ever want to save any money. We did on $15.00 a week and paid $20.00 a month rent.

Can you imagine??? $20.00 a month rent. Or only making $15.00 a week. But times were different then as she was born in 1911 and my grandpa was born in 1907. They both have been gone for quite some time now, but I am so happy to have what recipes I do. I remember going to her house and she always frosted her cookies with a colored sugar glaze type frosting, but, she never told me that recipe. Or she would make me grits for breakfast when I spent the night which was rare. Oh to be able to talk to her now.

As promised I will take my camera tomorrow on my way to class and take some pics if it doesn't rain. So come back Monday and hopefully I will have more to share. Sorry about no pics, but I don't want to give away what I've been working on. LOL.

My Painted Table Top

I had an inquiry email about the top of the table I painted in my Webshots picture about what it looked like. They thought that it would make a great floor cloth pattern. So I thought I would dust it off and take a pic to show what it looks like. You know I would have never thought about it, but Tracey I think you're right. I think I know what my next one will be :-) If you are interested I did draw up a pattern for this sort of to show how to recreate it. I am waiting to see if my directions were clear enough from Tracey. Anyway, just give me a holler either by comment or email (look in my right side column in the red writing copyright stuff for my email addy) if you'd like drawn pictures.

I have been tagged by my sweet SIL Tiffany from Tiffany's Primitive Place I am suppose to tell you 7 random/strange things abut me. Then I'm suppose to tag 4 of you to play along. I am just a strange bird that can 7 things really cover me. LOL.

1. I have a sensitivity to Aspartame. You know the stuff in NutraSweet and Diet pops. That is one of my rosacea triggers and a few years back it attacked my joints to the point where I could not bend over or roll over in bed to the point I just cried all night long. I have totally cut it out of my diet and have absolutely no pain at all.

2. I get sick to my stomach with just the smell of sea food.

3. I have never been out West in the U.S.

4. I like to put sugar on my white rice. I also put brown sugar on my grapefruit.

5. I get migraines and stuffed up from eucalyptus and cinnamon candles.

6. I only allow myself one cup of coffee a day or I start shaking to much to start and IV on my patients. LOL.

7. Last but not least... being a paramedic I see and smell lots of gross things but the thing that gets me the most is phlegm when people cough. I gag every time. LOL.

Alright, who am I going to tag.... hmmmmm.... lets see. Are you on the edge of your seat saying please don't pick me!!!! please don't pick me!!!!! Well... since I don't know who's already been tagged and I don't want to repeat consider yourself tagged if you haven't answered this already. LOL haha Gotcha!!!!

My First Listing on EBAY in a long time...

I decided to sell one of my scarecrows on Ebay just to see what happens. If it sells there great if not well we'll see. Anyway, I need some HTML help. Why do I have those stupid red Xs beside my pics? I need to get them off.

This is the one I'm selling...

I'll try to post a link too.. try here

Watcha Workin On Wednesday

I hate to disappoint everyone, but I haven't been working on much except the floor cloth for the tutorial. There are a few things though that are on my list to do. Remeber last week when I went to Goodwill and didn't show you everything? Well, that is one of the projects I need to work on.

I finally found a tater bin. I was patient long enough and found this beauty that I am going to paint.

My other finds at the Goodwill that day. The blueberry muffin candle still smells.

I am working on a few items for my website for fall. Which reminds me I really need to work on that too. My son is anxious about getting his school supplies so that is what we will do today, along with cookie baking, and light bulb changing he informed me. LOL. Hubby also informed me there is a family reunion on Sunday that I need to make food for that I told him I was not going to. I know that sounds bad, but it is his side of the family that I do not know even after almost 11 years. I have only met his grandmother twice and she only lives an hour away. I am just not comfortable going. Tiffany from Tiffany's Primitive Place is my SIL and I'm not sure if she's going. If not I'm not going. LOL.

I'm not that exciting today, but other people on Leslie's list are so make sure you check them out.

Tuesday Tutorial #2

Now that we all have our supplies for the floorcloth let's get started. I will be using a piece of linoleum today, but will explain how to use the cloth too.

This front side of your linoleum will be face toward the ground. Isn't mine pretty??? For those using cloth there are two ways to do this. You can either sew a hem all the way around first OR you can use glue later to glue your hem. I will explain this in a minute. Also if you are using fabric make sure there are no fold marks or wrinkles in your fabric as they won't come out while you paint. If you plan on using glue for the hem make sure you add 3 inches all the way around to allow for the glued hem. So if you are doing a 12" X 12" finished size cut the fabric 15" X 15" to start.

This is the backside of the linoleum. As you can see I am doing a another long one for my step landing upstairs. You can use any size. The roller on the right is what I like to use to put the background color on with, but you can certainly paint with a brush depending on the size you make. This works on either vinyl or cloth. I had a hump in my vinyl so I sat it in the sun to soften it and made it a little flatter. You will need a space that is flat to paint on. I think I saw Heather and Ann who work on a table in their dining or kitchen. I will be later on to finish it.

On the with fun part. If using vinyl just start painting on your base coat. You could prime if you wanted first its up to you. I don't I just put about 4 coats of the base color on. I am lucky as I just bought this entire gallon of paint from a yard sale for $2.00. I like to go to LOWES and find there area with messed up paint colors and buy that because it is discounted. I can always make it work. Now if using fabric you have a couple extra steps. Lay your fabric back side up... if prehemmed the side with the salvage edge face up. If not hemmed pick a side. You will need to paint one coat of paint on your back side. Make sure it covers well. Let that dry. After dry if already hemmed flip it over. If not hemmed we have one more step. After dry we will now need to take our ruler and measure 3" in from each side. This is where you will need to fold it. I miter my corners meaning I fold in the corner to form a triangle shade so that when the sides are folded together they meet perfectly. If needed I will take a pic of one of my older ones and post it. Just leave me a comment and I will do so OR email me. Now you can use white glue, but you will need to thin it a little using a brush put it on. This will get frustrating, but as you go along put heavy stuff on top of the glued seam to keep it in place. I have used modge podge with a foam brush and found it works really nice with many heavy objects. You will need to let this dry before moving on. Once dry flip it over and paint your 4 coats of your base color. DO NOT paint on your deck or porch if it looks like mine if using fabric. You will get the space marks in your paint. LOL. YES I did that!!!!!

Ok all 4 coats are on. The fabric should be somewhat stiff at this point.

This is what I do with my roller and brushes in between coats so I'm not constantly rinsing them. Just throw it in a Walmart or plastic bag of some sort twist the bag around it so no air gets in to dry it out. Also works with walls too!!!!

Everyone ready to move on??? All 4 coats are on and you are ready for your border if you choose. I normally measure in two inches all the way around and draw a light pencil line all the way around for my guide. I love using my quilter ruler as I call it because I can gauge where I am.

Now I have used blue painters tape to mark my line. Just put it right up next to the line to the inside of your line towards the middle. Now if using cloth you will not get a good stick job and may end up with paint running under the tape. Otherwise, just free hand painting the border on. I like to use my foam brushes because I can get a good straight line with them, but it is up to you. I do at least two coats depending on the coverage. Let that dry.

All right all caught up? I have decided to free hand my design. If using a stencil decide on your placement. Now sometimes you can eye ball where you want it or like me I get out a tape measure/ruler and measure. You can do this two ways when using a stencil and I have done both and sometimes I screw up both ways. Lay your stencil on the cloth and tape it down with your painters tape. Now if you can stencil well use your Apple Barrel or Delta or whatever you use to stencil you design. Be very careful because I have gotten the paint to run under my stencil then you have a bleed mark to fix later. IF you want use a pencil and lightly trace your design onto it then you will need to freehand fill it in with your paint. Again two coats if you don't get good coverage with the first coat. It is up to you. I have decided on a geometric design. Now I'll be honest there are a lot of math calculations in mine and if you need I can help you figure it out if you have something in mind you'd like to try. So now I am off to work drawing my design with pencil.

Now I am ready to paint. I use 2 coats of every color I use.

All done!!!! I decided to use green in the lines. At this point I normally go back and touch up any areas of bleeding or painting outside the lines to fix them. Now I do like to outline my designs sometimes, which I did do here. I use a cheater. I use a paint pen found at most craft stores to to the outlining. I shake way to much to paint a straight line. You can buy either a thin tip or medium tip whatever you choose. Then I use my ruler to help keep the line straight. You will only need to do one coat of the line. No I wasn't using my pins for anything with this project that you see on the table. LOL.

All right ladies we will stop here for today. That should get you started. We will finish next week. Now remember I will help you with anything you need just leave a comment or email me. This means if you don't have a screen name and you still read my blog please email me if you have questions. Have fun!!!!!

Watching Paint Dry...

I am back from my fun filled weekend of class. It was kinda like my title says watching paint dry. It was the most boring class yet. I came home Saturday with a hanging over the toilet nausea migraine. Went back for more fun Sunday. Most of my class mates were so nice though. But yes I was the only female in the class. Talk about lonely. LOL. I still have this coming Saturday yet to go. However, both days were beautiful and I had a 45 minute drive one way through Amish country. I will have to take my camera and take some pics of the scenery. Sunday was Amish church day so everyone was on their way to church in their black and white. It was so neat to see. They have their wheat stacked in the fields to dry. Beautiful flowers are blooming everywhere.

Well, I didn't want to say anything until I knew for sure, but NO I'M NOT PREGNANT!!!! LOL. Don't have those parts anymore. My home is not being featured in Country Sampler. It is being featured in the online prim magazine The Olde Prairie Register. I was contacted by the editor Michele of Holly Tree Primitives and she asked if I would mind. I am so excited. I believe the issue will be coming out today. Many of the pics you've seen in my Webshots, but I threw together some fall pics too. So please check it out as she has some other great articles too.

I found a place for my flea market find and I LOVE it, but you'll have to wait to see where I put it because I haven't decorated it yet. I think I'll wait til I pull out the fall stuff.

One last thing the other day when I was at the pharmacy I had time to look through the magazine rack and found a magazine I'd never seen before. It is only printed three times a year. I wasn't sure I'd like it since it said Country in the title, but I tell you what I LOVE it.

The magazine is Country Accents. It has some awesome ideas and actually tells you where to buy the stuff in the pics. In this issue they talk about kitchen redos. All the way from less than $500 up to $30,000. It discusses different flooring options like bamboo and cork. Sorry about the glare.

It even has a prim section. This is one of the pics. I LOVE this entryway!!!!!

Very Simple...

Love this too...

I really like the walls in this bathroom.

I might have to look for this magazine again. I've already read it several times. LOL.

Remember tomorrow is the next step of painting a floorcloth. Make sure you check back if you are ready to start. Even if you aren't stop back anyway because you know I always have something else to say too. LOL.

Fat Friday Recipe... and some Goodwill finds

As promised another recipe that my hubby likes to make. I didn't think about it until today to take a picture, but you all know what it looks like.

Tater Tot Casserole
1 lb browned hamburger or Sausage (I've used both)
1 onion (optional) we don't put it in.
8 oz cream cheese
1 can cream of chicken or mushroom soup
1/4 cup milk
1 tsp salt
1/4 cup ketchup
Tater Tots
cheese

Fry up your onion( if using) with the hamburger or sausage and drain. Mix cream cheese, soup, milk, salt, and ketchup together. Put in 8X8 or slightly bigger dish and cover with Tater Tots. Bake until done. We put ours in for about 35 minutes on 350 degrees. Watch the Tater Tots and when they are browned and crispy looking should be done. Put a layer of cheese on top and let it melt.

GOODWILL FINDS.....

Alright I was having enough withdrawals from thrift store hunting so I went to the local one today. These are just some of the pics as my camera batteries died. I'll have to show you the rest later.

Yes Yes I hear it now. Mary weren't you the one who said they were addicted to fabric and yes I did. I couldn't pass up the fabric $1.00 each. The one the left is a black and white check, middle, denim, and right is a brown woven tweed type. I am going to repaint the blocks, darken up the watermelon, and the old cribbage board I just couldn't pass up.

Can we say coffee stain... Oh yeah!!!!

And these cute little writing tablets for .50 a piece. Too cute.

It's F-R-I-D-A-Y !!!!!!

Normally I would be excited but this entire weekend I have to spend in a classroom. My chief decided it would be a good idea for me to go to this class that is an absolute bore. It is called Incident Command. Basically, what it is if something should happen like 9/11 again I have the tools and ability to run the scene in the absence of the chief. I will know what authorities to call on local, state, and national levels. The worst part is I will be in a class with a bunch of men who do not believe a woman belongs in the fire service. Woohoo!!!! Sounds fun (notice the flat tone in my voice.) LOL. So I will not be able to visit with all of you this weekend, but I'll be back Monday.

Do any of you on here have Yahoo mail? All of a sudden I can't email people with comcast or hotmail addresses. I have always been able to up until about a week ago when I couldn't send a note to my friend with a comcast email. Now last night I received a question from a hotmail account and it got returned that I was spamming this person. I am definitely not doing that. HMMMMM... just wondering.

Well, I decided I would show you my weird kitchen. Remember I have not painted this room yet or changed anything. I can't decide what I want to do yet. WARNING: It isn't anywhere near spotless for these pics. LOL.

Let's start tearing this place apart. See back in the corner behind the crock pot? The handle of the shelf disappeared. That's because there is no cabinet in the corner. It is empty wasted space. The basket up above is on a board to keep it from falling through.

The black cabinet used to be a book shelf. I happen to have these shutters on a wall framing a mirror at our old house, but since I have limited storage and no pantry I had to come up with something. That little drawers beside the stove are not bolted into a stud so they move around.

That is my newer black trash can that I love. Until I get an over the oven microwave to save counter space I put it on top. I got that blanket rack from a yard sale this year.

Now what's wrong with this picture? Yep my sink faces an inside wall. No window to look out. I hate that. Hubby says unless we change the size of the windows this is where it will stay.

Now doesn't this look out of place? A refrigerator hanging out by itself in the middle of no where. And on a 45 degree angle wall. So much for the work triangle. LOL.

Guess what is underneath my window seat. YES I hate the fabric on the seat I just haven't changed it yet. LOL. Yep upper cabinets. Someone took upper cabinets and made them into a bench seat for more storage. See how big my windows are. This is why my sink isn't in front of them.

This is on the other side of the fridge. Like my cords. LOL. I had a dry sink there but the cool air from the AC was ruining the wood. So I had to move it. Another huge window in my kitchen. I love all the light that comes in, but it makes it difficult to plan a kitchen update.

So there you have it. I'll be back later to post my Fat Friday Recipe when I decided what it will be. LOL.
