The 8th Grade Farewell Dance

I've had so much going on these last few weeks of May I just haven't had time to post. Things have settled down for a bit and I can relax a little.  I think what I'll have to do is go back and start from the beginning.

A few weeks ago was my son's 8th grade farewell dance.  I was informed it was a "formal" dance and that he was not allowed to wear jeans.  This was about a week before the dance.  He told me it was no problem as he had dress pants.  I asked if he was sure and he said yes.  I told him he'd better try them on to make sure they still fit since he hadn't worn them in quite awhile.  Sure enough 3 days before the dance he tries them on and lo and behold he was waiting for a flood. Grrrr.... So after work one morning I went shopping for new pants without him.  He told me size 14 would be fine.  OK I tell myself. Well, without him with me, I wasn't so sure.  So to be on the safe side I bought 14 and 16 at Kohl's.  I checked at Goodwill no dice.  I sure as heck didn't have time to take them back if they didn't fit before the dance.  (As a side note... Kohl's gave me a credit card.  I'm on my way to rebuilding my credit as it has been a year since my bankruptcy.)  Anyway, long story short we had an outfit.  He was now a size 16. Sheesh!!!!

My son went with his "girlfriend" to the dance.  He went and picked out a corsage for her, which she was the only one of two girls to have one. :-)  He was threatened by me he had better act like a gentleman and open doors for her. To my surprise he did great!  My son hates having his picture taken, but here are a few pictures of them.  I LOVE this awkward stage... they don't want to really touch each other... lol  I sure hope my son grows a little but his family genes may say otherwise.

They used the prom backdrop for their dance.  Great idea... Under the sea I believe it was.

They had a good time!  I'm so not use to the texting thing with them yet as I never really went through it with my daughter.  lol. The are at it all day long!  These two have been trying to hang out a lot these past few weeks.  I really like this young lady and so does my son.  She has been to our house 2 this week and he is with her and her Mom today.  They are well aware of the boundaries that myself and her Mom have set and they both are ok with it.  They are not to be left alone at all! Her Mother has informed my son it is ok for him to kiss her, but I don't believe that has happened yet. lol

I've finished a couple new stitcheries that I will try to share with you later this week.  Have a great weekend.

  1. You did great with the outfit! He looks very handsome. Teenagers are fun aren't they?! We had 3 at once and a younger child at the time. We have always set boundaries with our children. They appreciate it now that they are older.
I love your new pin keeps, especially the America the Beautiful. Wonderful work. Blessings~Sara
