Since I missed Watcha Workin On Wednesday

I missed yesterday because I was up late Tuesday night working on my project then had to work yesterday. I work again today, but I have a few minutes to post.

I made two pillow shams for my couch. They are wool I think LOL. I am not finished with them because I can't decide what I want to put on them. I'd like to make them work for both fall and winter. I thought about wrapping fabric around them in different colors, but then I think that's not what I want. So who knows what I'll come up with. I know not very interesting.

Next I have hated this chair cover for years. I am not a floral person, but this is what my grandma had it covered in. It kinda goes with the colonial theme, but I hate the colors. LOL. Normally I keep it covered with a blanket or something.

So I decided to make a slip cover. I have never attempted anything like this before. I had the material already in my stash. So I measured, cut and sewed. This is what I came up with. It is not done either as you can tell I still need to hem it because of the skirt still on it.

And I still need to cover the cushion. I am also going to pad the arms and back still. It is not very comfortable as you can feel the wood back through the cushion. I want it to look more like a make do chair. I won't get a chance to work on it til this weekend so I'm hoping to finish it up then.

Ta Da....

The new piece of furniture, Steve built for me, will be revealed today. We finished it up on Saturday.

Ok this was before at the antique store. The picture I received on my cell phone. I had no idea what he had in store.

We stripped the paint off using spray oven cleaner from Dollar General and put it in the sun. Let the paint bubble and scrape off. Steve then took the garden hose to it to spray off the left over goo. Yes it took time, but well worth it just wait. Then he added some feet to the bottom and built the top from scratch.

Next step was to stain the wood. We weren't sure if they would stain the same since it was different woods being used. Uggghhh... this looks horrid but wait... Then I wanted different closers for the door. So Steve cut out blocks of wood and sanded til I approved. LOL.

Next step was black paint. I couldn't decided what I wanted so to be safe I chose black. Then before I could turn around Steve had already sanded and stained it again.

And now waxed and sitting in my kitchen... my new kitchen cabinet!!!! Steve painted the folk art on the front while I was at the hair salon on Saturday. Don't mind the mess I was just excited to take pics and show you.

Now all I have to do is decorate it.

So there you have it. I LOVE LOVE LOVE it!!!!! I am planning my decorations for it. Oh and while we are on the subject of decorating I have a question for my you. Do any of you have small Christmas trees up year round? I have some fabulous pumpkin and gourd tree ornies I'd like to hang on a tree, but I'm not sure if I should get out a tree or not. Or I think I've seen brown fallish dead looking trees somewhere... if any of you know what I'm talking about please let me know where you saw them. As for now I'm getting laundry done and enjoying my kids first day of school by myself.

OK Another Sneak Peek...

The countdown to school begins. My daughter had her freshman orientation and student council picnic last night. My son had his 5th grade orientation today. Then we went miniature golfing and go-carting as a last hurrah before summer ends. Tomorrow we finish school shopping and packing back packs as the kids will be at their Dad's for the weekend and I work until midnight Sunday night. My son can ride the bus, but my daughter must walk or ride her bike. Of course I'll take her if it's raining or snowing, but I think the exercise will do her good.

Alright I couldn't resist. I've been working on my dining room too when I am not working. I even found my dining room table again.

It's getting closer and closer to adding my fall AND a new piece of furniture Steve is making for me. Stay tuned.

Sneak Peek...

As promised I will post a few pictures of my home mid decorating. Like I said I am getting ready for fall without my fall items. I am nowhere near done and will most likely move things around again. LOL.

So here are...

The sampler was my great aunts and my Mom gave it to me.

Steve helped me with this.

Free quilt from my Mom who got 3 free ones for me from a lady having a yard sale.

Can you tell I like samplers???

I don't want to give everything away yet. This is just a sampling before the big fall reveal. I am hoping next week to start decorating for fall.

When I go to work...

I am really scared to go to work and leave Steve home with my kids. Not really because they have a blast. I think I'm going to have to have Steve cancel pix messages on his phone. LOL. It seems as though everything happens when I'm at work.

What would you think when you receive pictures like this on your phone... This would be my son.

Then I get another picture... Caption reads... "Stevie tested and approved"

Then the phone call comes. "Hey Mom guess where I'm at?" I hate these phone calls. LOL. "I'm stuck on my new bunk bed" HUH???? " Steve boosted me up and I don't have a ladder yet." again I say HUH??? "Yep me and Steve built me a bunk bed today!" That proves it I can't leave them home at all by themselves. LOL.

Since I don't get home until midnight I had to wait until this morning to take pictures. WARNING this is a 10 year old messy room!!!! And no antiques were hurt in this process. Thank goodness!!! The bed is actually an antique 3/4 bed from my great aunt. They were going to throw it away, but I stepped in. I cleaned it up a little and put a furniture polish on it and it looks awesome. But you know kids. His sister got a desk and now he wants one, so all they could do was go up and we will put a desk underneath. There will be shelves on the sides. Of course we still need to paint it... and of course my son wants it Ohio State scarlet and grey. We'll see about that. LOL.

Another view... that would be my sons tool box LOL

And now the ladder... hmmm... old quilts, textiles, oh wait this isn't mine LOL. I know I couldn't get a straight on view unless I got into the closet. Maybe when it's done I will get in to give the full affect.

Other than that I confess I have been redecorating. No I haven't pulled out my fall YET. But I am adjusting so that when I do I can just add a little here and there to spice it up. Steve even got into to it. He has a really good eye and is good at decorating. It is still pulled apart, but I'll snap a few teasing photos. LOL Now off to meet the attorney.

My Shopping Excursions

I finally have time to type a little more. Yesterdays post was typed at work. Shhhhh... LOL. Anyway, I have created a monster.(snicker snicker) Steve now likes going to Goodwill and to the flea markets. We went Thursday to two different Goodwills. One in the town I live and one in the town he lives. Now I did not know this, but maybe you did. Around here the manager at the store sets the prices at each Goodwill. hmmmm... kinda strange, but the one in Steve's town was a little more expensive, but it had a lot more in the way of wood items. Originally I was going school clothes shopping for my daughter because certain items were on sale. We got capris for $.99 a pair and jeans for $3.50 a piece. I can't beat that and she was happy. Well, of course while we were there I had to see what was new. Steve was trying to pick out dresses for me, but was in the wrong size. I looked at him and said I realize I have put on 10 lbs. since January, but uh those are way too big. LOL. Then of course he picks out some cute sundresses, lets just say I am not well endowed and can not fill out those kinds of dresses on top. LOL Again I tell him um thanks but not for me. Then he picks out a beaded Mother of the bride dress... I laughed and said I hope not yet my daughter is only 14. Anyway, enough of the blabbering on to the treasures Steve and I found.

Love the clock though it's a bit to gold on the face, the shoe shine box I saw in a book I was looking at not to long ago that someone was using, not sure if I'm going to paint the candle holders, and the Amish towel rack uh well bye bye that will be painted over lol.

Next Steve found this book holder and HE bought it. I love the detail in it. It was $3.00.

I need to ask my Mom for the family Bible to display on it. So for now it remains empty.

Next I found this beautifully carved jewelry box. I paid $1.00 for it. The white is an inlay into to the top. The box is carved on every outside surface. I just love it!

Now on to the entire display with my new candle holder Steve bought me too next to the rocker. It's not done yet and will probably not stay this way, but I'm getting the fall display itch. LOL

I told you I went shopping last weekend at a new shop that was having a garage sale, well this is more things I bought. Everything you see was a $1.00 a piece. HEHE if you look close enough you can see I wrote "pantry" in the dust of one of the black and red wood pieces. That's what I want to do with that one. LOL

See the prices on them... not what I paid. I got them for 50% off of that price. Not bad huh?

The candle holder was 20% off and all the candles were $.25 a piece. I'm thinking I want to redip them in dark wax, but that's down the road.

Everything in these pictures was 20% off. There is that fabulous paint technique again. Oh and Kim let me work on that technique and then I'll do a tutorial.

Fall fabric... need I say more. LOL. I told you I can't wait til fall decor comes out the boxes. The kids go back to school on August 24th so I'm thinking that will be a good time to switch over. LOL.

Alright, I've talked your ear off enough. I better get going and start doing something since it's raining outside. I have plenty of projects up my sleeve. I start my new shift tomorrow and wouldn't you know it would be the Football Hall of Fame football game tomorrow night where I work. Yuck!!!!! I HATE FOOTBALL!!!!! LOL. If there are spelling mistakes I'm sorry, but my spell check on Blogger isn't working. UGGHHH

The Ticking Fabric Reveal

My camera is now up and running again. I managed to get a two projects done this week. But of course I couldn't go without Goodwill shopping too.

First, this is what I did with that ticking fabric I showed you earlier. Not very exciting a towel.

This is where it gets exciting. I have had this chair for years. It was bought at at an auction by someone else and then they decided they didn't want it and gave it to me. You like all my junk laying around it that I haven't put away. The eggs to the right I just bought for 50% off.

The seat is falling apart a little.

While shopping this weekend I saw this really cool chair cover. So of course I had to inspect. No, I didn't take the cover off!!!! LOL But I could feel the chair underneath and I moved the display a little to see the construction. I thought it was an awesome idea. So I came home and sewed it and coffee stained it on Tuesday. Then of course it was so humid outside it wouldn't dry. So finally yesterday I rag stuffed the seat and finished it. Now all I need is a little pillow to lean on it.
