Need some help...

I posted a pic of my new foyer floor in an earlier post. Well, here it is with grout as you enter my home. I need to repaint the walls and yes the baseboards. I can't strip them because not all the wood base and trim match. I already thought about it trust me. Anyway, when you see brick... what colors do think of?

Here's the floor it actually has grey grout...


This is part of the room that the foyer opens into...


I was thinking of using the upper wall color for the walls, but I can't decide on the base and trim color. Or, I could go totally different I am not sure. Or do I leave the color that it is and paint the woodwork? I just hate white!!!! Please voice your opinion I need it.

Back From Thrifting and the Flea Market

I am back... I went to my favorite thrift store in Amish country and the antique store/flea market today. I would have liked to have gone elsewhere, but I didn't have any other reason to go to the store nearby so I figured I'll save the gas today. That and my kids would have called me asking where I was. They don't like going with me unless we buy something for them. That's OK though as I have more time to look and savor everything when they stay home.

Alright lets start at the thrift store...

First up, I bought a total of about 7 yards of material... one is like a weavers cloth, red felt (for Christmas), warm and natural batting, and cotton floral fabric, and the little things in the bag are pegs for a peg rack (that hubby doesn't know he's gonna build yet)


I found these little quilted beauties... I just need to learn how to bind a quilt and we'll be all set...


Next, This first set of authentic little girl Amish Dresses... I hit the jackpot today on dresses...


The next set doesn't necessarily go together... but this is a dress and apron that the Amish wear.


I also found some little girl's head covers. I love these.


The next dresses I bought a few months ago.


If any of you use double knit fabric for anything let me know. They have a ton and I will be more than happy to get some for you.

OK next stop was the antique/flea market place. I looked and I looked everywhere. I saw tons of stuff I would love to have, but kept thinking I need to put more effort into my crafts and sell a few things and with that money buy what I want. But I just couldn't resist this little Radio Flyer wagon a bargain at $2.00.


Check back as I won't need all these dresses or head covers and am going to sell some of them. I need to decide which ones I want then I will let all of you know. Sorry this post is so long, but I thought you'd like to see my treasures.

Thrifting and Trash Picking

I have read on many of your blogs about how many of you like to go to thrift stores and yes some of you trash picking. I LOVE both of these. Before I moved a year ago I use to go all over town looking in peoples trash for my treasures. Now that we live out in the country I don't see as much. My hubby always use to get so embarrassed when I would drag stuff home. Then my FIL used to make fun of me until he started to find stuff like a brand new pool cover in the trash. Then he found wood and made a headboard for a bed. This is one of my finds... Right now I have it in my basement and it seems a little dusty but this is a mahogany veneer dresser minus the mirror, with tiger eye maple drawers from the early 1900s. I took the drawer to an antique store for help on this. I cleaned it up a little and viola a perfect TV stand for now. I can't bring myself to paint it because it is so beautiful. I did find out that back then if you had a piece of furniture the had a wood veneer over the wood that it was a high end piece. Only the well off could afford it because with the veneer more detailing could be done. I thought that was interesting.



Now thrift stores are my thing. I have one about 15 minutes away in Amish country that I love. You can get fabric $1.00 a yard and I have found/bought tons. I bought a real little Amish dress for my peg rack, lots of Atlas and Ball jars, crafting supplies like crazy, quilts, I even bought a set of Henn Pottery Plates and bowls for $10.00, clothes, sewing supplies, umm buggy blankets, aprons, Amish bonnets, you name it I have probably seen it. I found this little treasure not so long ago there... A cedar lined chest... It needs cleaned up and repainted...



I also go to Goodwill as I have about 3 within 20 minutes of my house. I'm always on the look out of good deals. I figure I can always repurpose or repaint just about anything. I don't find as many good things there, but I don't give up. I need to quit looking for furniture though as I have too much as it is and have no where to put it. LOL. Hmmm... all this talk makes me want to go to the Thrift store. Maybe tomorrow, I'll let you know what I find.

My Weekend...

So I told you we were going to dog sit this weekend for some friends of ours. Well, she was better behaved this time than the last time we had her. She didn't have any accidents in the house when I was here...but she didn't like my hubby and sat right in front of him and peed on my kitchen floor when he tried to get her outside when I wasn't here. He was so mad I could here him yelling at her from outside when I came home. She had run upstairs and wouldn't come down. I finally coaxed her down and took her out. Here she is so cute I tell ya... That's my son with Hershey.



Here's my unloved dog... (yeah right) Spoiled is more like it!!!!





Skip to this AM... I was outside next to her while she was on a line, when my dog decided to walk next to her and she ran after after him. And yes of course you guessed it... the line caught my leg swept it out from under me and I fell... my ankle popped and I fell on my hip. Luckily, the only lasting mark is where the line caught my leg... It's kinda hard to see but here... it matches my other leg... LOL.

No laughing at the moon tan... My legs haven't seen the sun until today!!!!




I did get to work on reorganizing my craft room since the basement is the coolest place in the house. It is 92 degrees outside my central air is at 74 and it is having trouble keeping up. I will get pics of the craft room and show you later this week. I am so excited because I found lots of fabric I forgot I had. I am washing up some remnants a lady who used to have a fabric store gave me in hopes of using them somehow too. Hopefully, soon I will be adding some dolls, aprons, and bonnets to the website. I'll let you know. Now I just need to work on cleaning the rest of the basement. If it stays warm like this I think I'll do it this week.

Suzi Homemaker I am NOT...

This is a rare glimpse into the my mind and craft room aka... the Basement. By looking at my craft room it is hard to believe anything gets done. It looks very disorganized because it is somewhat. Yes, I know where everything is most times. LOL. It is probably in the pile in the corner. I need to reorganize my fabric and while at was at Walmart today I bought new see through tubs to put my fabric in so that I can see it. Right now it is in the corner cabinet stacked in front of each other. So I don't remember what I have and buy more. LOL. So no laughing... I will clean my craft area..........soon. Yeah I know I'm procrastinating. Do you see the unfinished furniture I need to redo, how about all the paint I need to put away, hmmmm... the fabric that is hanging out of the cabinet? HEHE and to think I create prim stuff... is that why buttons don't match and the fabric is dirty???? LOL Don't worry my needfuls aren't really dirty that's just cinnamon.





We are dog sitting this weekend for some friends of ours. We did this in January for them and my poor dog was so upset he made himself so sick he started puking. I am to have this other dog from tonight until Sunday. I'll take pics and let you know how we're doing. You should know my dog is an only dog for 8 years and is set in his ways. This should be an interesting weekend.

All in a Day's Work

It is as hot as blazes here... whew!!!! They say in Ohio wait 10 minutes and the weather will change. There is some truth to that. Last week I was telling you how cold it was, well... I bite my tongue to tell you it is 90 degrees and humid as all get out. Luckily I am at work for the next 24 hours where I have air conditioning. We haven't turned ours on at home yet. We like to have our windows open and the breezes blowing in along with our ceiling fans going. Our house stays pretty cool even though we have no mature trees near us.

Today was eventful as we (EMS) had to go with the fire department to an electrical pole fire. Now imagine standing out in the sun in navy blue uniforms, leather boots, in the direct sunlight, with a fire blazing. I tell you I was sweating in places no one should be sweating. LOL. We were there for about 3 hours until the electric company decided to show up to do their job. Of course, like always, we had to redirect traffic and being a woman not too many drivers or pedestrians take me seriously. I tell them they can't go a certain way and they do it anyway. GRRRR... That just sets me off. However, one of the power company looks at my badge and says "oh so you're a Captain" I say "yes sir I am why?" "No reason let me find out if we can release you yet." Mind you this is the first person from the electrical company to talk to me, but they talked to all the other men that were there. This was after we had been standing there for three hours watching the pole burn. Just a note it's not a good idea to put out an electrical fire out with water...that's why we let it burn. Anyway, I'm off my soapbox now. Things will never change in the fire service around here.

What I Can Accomplish...

Today was a warm, muggy, rainy day here. I needed to clean, laundry, you know all the stuff I should have done, but didn't. Ok, so I got three loads of laundry done, dishwasher ran once and reloaded ready to go again, and best of all I got to craft. It's funny what I can accomplish when I have a day off. I know I said I was going to work on Christmas...but I couldn't resist these today...

I have a couple ideas I'd like to work on, but I need to get some house cleaning done. Although I could ask my kids to help... LOL... right. It's a chore to get them to clean their rooms let alone anything else except drive each other and their Mother crazy. These two are cooped up inside today because of the rain and they are on my last nerve. I only have 3 more months of this... YAY!!!! (notice the sarcasm).
