First Day of School.... Freezing Corn

Well, I came home last night after a twelve hour day to my hubby waiting for me to freeze 12 dozen corn. I knew we needed to do it, but I was not motivated, but then again when am I. We decided to keep the mess confined to the garage. After all, we had to shuck it, blanch it and then put it in an ice water bucket. So my son, who was my slave because he got in to trouble yesterday and is now grounded, was helping. He did a great job shucking the corn but had a little trouble with the silk. Anyway, we got it all done in and cleaned up in about 2 hours. Not too bad...


And the saga begins... You knew I couldn't not take pictures right???

All went well this morning getting the kids on the bus except for the fact no pictures because the bus was 15 minutes early. AHHHHHHH.... the kids were running out the door. My son was so excited to go back and see all of his friends again. My DD actually tried to do her hair and was excited to go to school too. Now the dog and I are cleaning the kitchen and getting ready to do errands. The silence again until 3pm. What to do what to do???? LOL Oh wait I know get things done!!!! LOL.

Great Weekend !!!!

My MIL, SIL Tiffany (Tiffany's Primitive Place) Aunt in law and I all decided we needed to do some shopping. Ok Tiffany needed to take some of her handmade primitive items to one of our favorite shops to sell there. I was going to take my camera and take pics, but of course air headed me forgot it. DUH!!!! So, you'll have to use your imagination until next time. I am so mad at myself because I even told Tiffany don't let me forget it. GRRR.... Anyway, so we stop at Audrey's Attic, which is a mix of primitive and country because she was having a sale. You get to pick your percent off your sale up to 50%. She gives like 10 books to pick from and each one has a book mark inside with a different percent off. I picked a 30% off, so a lot more things became appealing. LOL. I bought crow soaps scented with cloves, cinnamon, nutmeg, and the like. This pic was taken in the bathroom so I had to use a flash and it came out yellowy. I bought 4 of and put them in a jar in the bathroom. They were already marked down to $1.99 then an additional 30% off.



I also bought a really yummy smelling candle that smells kinda like popcorn. I also have a coffee, cream, and sugar candle by the same person. I am saving them for fall and winter. I also bought some pods to put in a jar. They were hard to get a good picture of so I'll have to work on that and post a pic later. I also bought a screen door to put on my porch as a decoration. I had to leave it there because we didn't have the room to take it with us. I'll pick it up Tuesday when I'm off work.

Next, we went to the antique store and flea market. I didn't buy anything there, though I did see a lot of stuff. Oh wait I lied I bought a Twix candy bar and a pot scrubbie. LOL. What... I needed my energy. Tiffany found some great stuff that I'm hoping she'll post on her blog too.

So off to our friend Kim's store Salt Creek Mercantile in Fredericksburg. This is the store I wanted pictures of the most. Her store is absolutely gorgeous. She promised she would take pics and email them to me to put on here for you. Anyway, she had her spring summer stuff marked down to 50% off so I picked up these towels...the mustard napkin was from Audrey's Attic.



I did then splurge and pay full price for the broom corn and this awesome coverlet. The broom corn will not be staying here. I just needed some where to put it until I redecorate.







Next we were off to the thrift store in Kidron. But what is a trip to Kidron without getting ice cream at Lehman's. They still had my favorite blueberry waffle cone so we quick got more sugar to keep us going. Tiffany and I ran across the street quick to the flea market and thought the people we saw were way over priced, so we left. The sign out in front of the thrift store said they were having a sale on their fabric, but when we got inside it was all double knits and synthetics. So we were a bit disappointed. Now, this thrift store is in Amish country and they have authentic Amish clothes hence real Amish people shop there. There were a few that day and I was trying to hide the fact that I was looking at the Plain (Amish) clothes rack to see what was there. I just feel funny buying their clothes to use in my home and not for my kids to wear. They do give you weird looks too, so I was hiding behind the rack and watching the one couple walking away before I went up to it. I'm glad I looked on the rack because I found my little boys clothes to go with my dress and bonnet. I don't like the way this looks right now... I need to arrange it or add to it or something. I'm just not sure yet. I'm thinking one of those long baskets or one of Kindra's candle holders she has on her Etsy. Or a Simplify sign up above. Any suggestions???



I also found some great stencils to use on my floor cloths too for $.25 to $.50 a piece.



Now I get up to the counter to pay and low and behold that same Amish couple is standing there too. The same ones giving me the evil eye when I was looking at the Amish clothes. LOL. Oh well, whether I buy it or they buy it the money goes to mission work. But that is just my luck is all.

Sunday was our grocery shopping trip for school lunch food and for me to look at Wal-mart fabric. I wanted to buy some more brown fabric like what I used on my aprons and it was all gone. Bummer!!!!! I am hoping they get more in. Other than that I was slowly starting to take down some of my Spring/Summer decorations and putting away and reorganizing. I am considering moving my furniture around again. I drive my hubby crazy when I move stuff, but I have those great saucer looking movers that I put under the corners and I just start moving away. We'll see once I get everything down and I start with a blank slate.

Fat Friday Recipe...

I don't have anything out of this world this week. I've been so busy working and school shopping I haven't had a lot of time to cook great meals so I'm going to tell you a favorite of my kids. This recipe is basically from Pampered Chef.

Taco Ring
2 cans of crescent rolls
1 lb of ground beef browned with onion if you so choose
1 package of taco seasoning
cheese (we use cheddar)
taco garnishments

Preheat your oven to whatever the crescent can says. I think normally 425 degrees. Brown your ground beef and add your taco seasoning according to the package. Set aside. Take the crescent rolls and break them apart on the dotted lines so that you have triangles. Place the long pointy tip so that it points toward you on a cookie sheet. Lay the remaining pieces in a circle that reminds you of a sun (I sometimes have 2 left out of both cans). Now I use my little pastry roller and use it to indent the dough in the middle leaving a "lip" around the center. If it makes it easier place a small bowl in the middle of the baking sheet so that you leave a circle. Now take your taco meat and pile it in the indent around the circle. Keep piling until you have mounds. I then take and sprinkle cheese on top of the beef. Take the points that are facing you and pull them over top of the beef towards the middle and pinch it to the lip you left. Continue all the way around. You should be able to see some of the beef peeking out in places. Place it in your preheated oven for about 12-15 minutes until golden brown and done. Serve with taco garnishments like tomatoes, olives, sour cream, taco sauce, or whatever you like. I've seen people take a red pepper clean all the insides out and fill with sour cream in put in the circle in the middle.

We went and got the kid's hair cut yesterday. All went well we'll see how my DD hair styling and cut go. We got more layers cut into it and thinned out. She actually has a style now. Still very easy to take care of though. I love the girls that cut our hair. It is a little two seater shop in a very small town with just a post office and one restaurant. $21.50 for two haircuts. I can handle that.

I decided since we were out we'd stop at the Goodwill to see if there were any school clothes for the kids and of course treasures for me. My son was looking at golf clubs, which I already bought him 4 at a $1.00 a piece during my last shopping trip. I couldn't keep my DD interested in looking at clothes so she went to look at the books. She found the book "The Notebook" and had to have it. Hmmmm... ask to buy a book to read absolutely I'll buy it. I did happen to find her a pair of shorts that covers everything and with a higher waste that would be suitable for school. My son refused to try on a pair of jeans so we left them. I knew this trip would be fruitless for them so I looked for me. I was looking at all the picture frames when I spotted two small chalkboards. Score I'm thinking I don't need the chalkboard paint after all. They were $.50 a piece. I told my son my plans for them and he got excited and grabbed them. We looked around a little more and went back over to the junk section as I call it where they have headboards and huge ugly pictures and such. My son pulls out a big chalkboard. Oh I got really excited except it had something printed at the bottom in permanent paint. So I was bummed. That was going to work a ton better than these little ones. I kept looking and Voila I found exactly what I was looking for. Yes it is laying on my painting mat getting ready for a face lift. I will hopefully be able to show you the redo by Wednesday next week. I am so excited. My kids are excited about it too. And if you are wondering $3.50 for my chalkboard. I still bought the smaller chalk boards too at the urging of my son, who has already painted the frame of his. (smiling) What a good boy I have.



Earlier yesterday morning I ran to the post office to bid fair well to some of my goodies to their new homes and decided to drown my sorrows at a local furniture store that is closing up. They are having a sale. Right now it is only 35%-40% off. So I looked around a found a few things on my wish list and bought a few things. The lady told me they would be marking stuff down each week a little bit. So hubby says we need to make it a weekly trip to see. I couldn't leave empty handed so this is what I came home with. No I didn't pay the $29 dollars you see in the grain measure. Are you kidding me??? I don't pay full price for anything. I knew I had to have the candle holders at $5.00 a piece. They area all different sizes and will look awesome in a grouping for fall.



I have decided that next week I will start pulling down my summer and spring decorations in preparation of fall decorating. I can't wait any longer. This will be a long process as I have to clean and dust too before anything goes back up. Anyone else starting yet??? Is it too early??? Let me know.

What To Do... Website Has Been Updated

Need I say more my website has been updated... One of you already found it ;-) I am not naming any names here... but you all can beat her later. LOL. Check here Gettysburg Homestead.

Look what my hubby's boss gave him to bring home to me. I have no idea what or where I am going to use them for or put them. But I so love them. I suppose I could put flowers in them, but then you'd have to drill holes in the bottom to let the water out. Oh I know for my potions since I am such a witch sometimes. LOL. One is copper and one is cast iron. Hmmmm.... I haven't even tried to lift them yet. Like the snow plow... yeah that hangs out in my driveway year round. Very pretty isn't it?



Today is haircut day in anticipation of school starting Tuesday, so this should be fun. My DD needs a hairstyle that is easy to take care of because she has a hard time getting conditioner out of her hair because it is so thick. She is also very sensitive on her scalp to combs,brushes, barrettes, or ponytails so most times she won't brush her hair or style it either. This is so hard for me because she is in eighth grade and I remember doing my hair and caring what I looked like. Age wise she is there but mental maturity wise she is lagging and always will. Jeans and t-shirts untied shoes and messy hair is how she goes to school. I've tried to buy her other clothes and they sit there. I guess for me it is picking my battles. This is the least of my worries with her at this stage. She is excited about school starting to see all her friends again and her new "friend" yes a boy Eric. He called her this summer and told her he liked her for who she was. If you'll remember this was the boy who came to her birthday party. I am so happy for her.

Watcha Working on Wednesday

Many of you know Leslie from My Country Home started Watcha Working on Wednesday awhile back and of course I jumped on board. By doing this it makes me keep moving on stuff and being creative. I find it hard to motivate myself sometimes so she does it for me. I like to plan ahead and decide what I'm going to do the next week. Many of you know I have been working on "stuff" to put on my website. I hate calling it "stuff", but what else can I use... primitive needfuls, junk to some, things, ...oh I don't know. Oh I know how about dirt prim grungy needfuls YOU have to have for your home. LOL. I find myself going a bit of a different direction with my creations recently. I really do like what I am evolving into. Anyway, enough of the blabber here's what I've been working on....


I love corn cob dolls....



My table mat... I'd call it a candle mat, but it's a bit big for that. Anyway are the leaves fabulous. They are actually crunchy like real leaves. Not sure if I can part with this but you never know.




Of course a prairie doll with a pumpkin just for the season.



I decided to try a prim towel. I added a fabric loop on the back to hang it from.

My favorite things to make.... I LOVE LOVE LOVE oh did I say LOVE to make aprons and bonnets. Of course these are my own pattern and each one is different. I have made a few just out of muslin for myself that are hanging in my kitchen. This one is a dark blue...

And of course light blue... I know they aren't fallish but hey I leave them up year round.



I tried a couple pumpkins... this pic was taken this am in the dark because I didn't want to turn the light on to take the pic cuz hubby fell asleep on the couch.



Last but not least another girl scarecrow. I don't remember who commented on my last one that they had never seen a girl scarecrow... so that was it I wanted to be different so I created another one. I want to create things that you don't see anywhere else. You can't see too well but she has on red pantaloons under her dress. She turned out so adorable. Sorry sooooo prim. LOL



So there you have it what I've been working on. I told you not to go get yourself worked up. I, however, am very excited about my creations. I would love to be able to get these on my website on Thursday at some point. We'll see how things go between now and then.

I am in the beginning stages of thinking about my 100th post giveaway. Yeah yeah I know that is like 20 some posts away, but I want to make it a good one. I am trying to decide what will people want for FREE (bwaaaaahaaaaahaaaaa) so I'm trying to laugh like I'm spooky LOL. Did you get that??? Hmmm.... twenty some posts will be near my birthday too. Boy there are going to be some lucky people out there. What to do what to do... guess you'll all have to wait til closer.

Now I'm gonna embarrass someone who reads my blog I think. I like looking at my Feedit Live thing to see where people are coming from to read my blog. The other day I noticed someone from my hometown was here. Now I won't tell you the town name, but the person will know by the next few comments I make. This town holds the annual Blue Tip parade in June, you have the Ella Everhard library, ummm... Casa Del Rio restaurant, and Thurbers Jewelry store is there. hehe if they read this they are gonna be like wha..... if this is you please leave a comment or email me. My parents still live there. Don't you just love calling people out. LOL. They are probably like hey I just want to be a lurker I can't believe she just did that. Well, if you haven't read my blog from the beginning yep I'm like that. I see everything just like I tell my kids... I have eyes everywhere.... LOL. Please don't be shy and not leave a comment I don't bite really.... I love meeting new people. Everyone here is just one big happy family... Are you humming Kum Ba Yah yet???? Well if you weren't thinking I was crazy before you really are now!!!!
